jesus Lampley. makes me cringe just about every word he says. he's been calling fights for a thousand years and still doesn't know what the hell he's looking at. I think Merchant is mostly okay. He doesn't assume things like he knows everything. he'll ask technical boxing related questions to Roy or big George when he was there and it at least seemed like he was trying to learn something. I liked his comment in the first round of the Mitchell-Banks fight last night. "Can he be schooled, or is he the big kid in the schoolyard you don't wanna mess with."

Most of the commentators annoy me. The only ones who don't are Steve Farhood, Barry Tompkins and the Boxeo Telemundo guys. I also enjoy Bob Sheridan and Benny Ricardo, just for their over the top commentary. It's enjoyable, in a WWE kind-of-way.

I'd really like for the HBO team to be more unbiased, but leave the pizzazz and the flare only great commentators can do. Bernstein and Roy Jones are the best for unbiased view of a fight in English, but Dr. Alfonso Morales has always been my favorite as he has the ability to make a fight sound more exciting with a charisma second to none and has the knowledge of a Bernstein. Finito Lopez is a great commentator too. But yes, Merchant and Lederman sometimes can be alittle stubborn, but especially Lampley he seems to go with the crowd or majority mentality. He won't really study or look into controversial fights as he should, failing to understand a different point of view.

Everything he says i seem to disagree with. As well as his annoying voice. And his scorecards? Dont get me started. Sometimes its like he is watching a different fight. Either that or smoking crack. Oh and.....

Larry Mechant in general

I dont hate the guy or anything, but come on. Hes too old to hold a decent interview. He mumbles, doesnt make sense, and allows his bias to come over in his interviews, which IMO is a big no no.

And generally I also get fed up with Analysts that keep telling me stuff that i already know, and quite frankly anyone with a brain and eyes can see. This is why i think i like Roy Jones so much. He gives his opinion on what he thinks a fighter is going through and his possible thought process. Things that to me, not being a fighter wont have incite into.

As i said before I also hate clear Bias. Even if i hate a fighter i can see still see him for him, and not let my hatred cloud my vision. I feel some analysts, who have the honour of commentating cant even hide their dislike for certain fighters. Again an example if Larry Merchant interviewing Floyd. Hes so negative about everything.

Just my thoughts.
Lettermen had Toney vs Jirov a draw...... Toney schooled him then topped it off with a KD and I think Jirov lost a point fir a lil blow in a round he lost and Lettermen scored it 9-9. All because Jirov was coming forward throwing useless punches that were getting blocked and then getting countered hard. He's such a pressure whore.

The phrase I hate hearing from ANYBODY, IS, 'styles make fights', isn't that FKN' OBVIOUS, and when people say it, they pause, THEN say it, like it's SO profound.

I hate it when the winner gets grilled in the post fight interview more then the loser. Merchant and Kellerman can be huge trolls sometimes. A guy can win via knockout, but all they want to talk about after the fight is the left hand he got hit with or why he couldn't finish him sooner. The loser gets off the hook as long as they put on a semi-courageous effort.

I just wish they'd focus more on the positive things and let the winner have their moment, you can always log onto a boxing forum and talk shit afterwards.

Too many covering fight, too much talking. Yu would think they were calling fight on radio. I hate opinions on details from know nothings like Lamply.

Kellerman, and Merchant, trying to stir up shit in interviews pissed me off. Kellerman smiles while instigating, making it worse.

JG, do you have any anecdotes regarding some of the great commentators like Cosell or Dunphy, etc?

When they talk over the work of 1 fighter, while overly appreciating the other guys work.

Commentary never bothers me. It can help a fight but it can't hurt it.

I thought Merchant made Wlad-Haye a lotta fun.

Same here, Lennox Lewis too. Kellerman sucks, and I must be the only one on here that can't stand RJJ and the HBO panel's constant ****sucking of him when he's on
"what a terrific shot to the body, he must have been watching tapes of when you used to throw masterclass-level body shots, Roy"
"hehe"
