Default Are Powerful leg kicks predictable ?

Does throwing Powerful leg kicks in MMA open you up for a dangerous counter attack. We see those kicks of the smaller variety that lack intention.

I realise you see them from time to time but they just seem like an underused skillset. Perhaps its a strike that is too easy to counter when up against seasoned Wrastlers.

On mmatv one of the clips they showed had an Amateur Heavyweight drop his opponent with an inside Heavy Leg kick, something not seen in the higher levels.

Predictable? ....he didn't even know what hit him.

Powerful? ....powerful enough for the KO and to end the fight.

He said "leg" kicks, not "head kicks".

Powerful leg kicks happen often in high level mma. Griffin won his belt with leg kicks. And you're right, it is countered easily by good wrestling, so people are wary throwing them.

The reality is for some powerful kicks does open them up but for the better fighters they know how to time their shots or counter the counter even if that means the fights taken out of their comfort zone.

We still get powerful kicks in abundance. No need to worry. You are seeing an introduction with guys like Silva, GSP, Machida, Le etc of a little less power perhaps but alot more accuracy and as per the JPEG above, that can kill.

I really enjoyed this fight, and got it on tape. Those leg kicks and combos paid dividends.

Predictable is one thing. Avoidable another thing entirely. Sustained leg kick attacks, including powerful ones, are often anticipated by the victim, yet they still can't avoid them. As the damage toll increases the victims mobility decreases and it becomes even harder to avoid the kicks. To the point where it can become simply impossible, and the damage enough to cause a stoppage.

Then there's the single leg kick KO >>>

Hard to continue with a broken leg.
