Stiverne and Don King would have to do the same. Seems they didn't try, for whatever reason. Interestingly Don King bid $1.1 million (twice the next highest bid) for the Arreola - Stiverne fight, seems he is still supporting Stiverne and has high hopes for him. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Don King has some ace up his sleeve for the Stiverne - Arreola fight. I mean the fight is in freaking Venezuela if I read it right. Arreola better watch out.

Organizations use and abuse their own damn rankings however their agenda requires em to. I don't think Stiverne would do shit with VK anyway. But he draws big in his overseas fights, so odds are they were gettin paid no matter who VK fought, so why have him face his real mando?

Not always, and quite frequently not. The IBF, for instance, always has two eliminators before the actual fight to determine the mandatory.
As mentioned elsewhere, we would have heard Don King make a giant stink if he actually was the mandatory. It was supposed to be a two-step eliminator. Stiverne lost his spot because he didn't take a fight he was supposed to (can't remember who offhand though). Now his Arreola fight is another first step of a two-step eliminator. Besides, Stiverne sucks and has little chance of either winning or making an entertaining fight. The better question is why Stiverne (who had beaten zero decent fighters) vs Austin (who had just lost his prior fight) was ever called any kind of eliminator to begin with. |
