Yes but have you ever seen any do over 100? Look up the pull up records the very best are tiny in body weight bruce lee size.

Whats stronger P4P an ant or an elephant?

If you can't do a single one then negatives is by far the best way. You can also use resistance bands wrapped over the bar and placed under your foot or knee depending on the size of the band.
This.

If you don't have access to a resistance band, just put a bench or chair behind you and rest one foot on there, use it for some minimal assistance to help you get up to the bar.

Totally irrelevant. This guy is worried about doing 1, not 100. He's not going for any records he just wants to get stronger.

Years ago when I couldn't do more than a few pull-ups, what I did was pulldowns with the knee-pad raise too high actually be in contact with my knee. I'll be the first to say, this wasn't the only reason why I improved, but very quickly I was able to do more and more.

I've always been OK at pullups(well for the last ten years anyway) and the way I learned to do them was by getting someone to spot me at first. You may need a bit of a push at first but you'll soon find that, similar to benching, the psychological boost you get from a spot will allow you to perform most of the movement yourself.
I know what it's like to not have a spotter but even if it's a member of staff at the gym,it will help you on your way.

I've never managed more than a set of 8 though, even though I can knock out a few sets.

Start doing pull-ups half way up.
See how many half pullup you can do.
Do them several times a day.
Then try one full pull up followed by half pullups.
Keep building on that.
Record all sets and reps.
If you want to do lots of pullups, you have to work for them.

Some shocking advice in this thread. Shrugs, and in high reps. Really?
Negatives and lat pull downs will get you there in no time.
