The Vlad of today uses his jab, movement and size to keep Larry at bay and give Larry something to think about with a few early right hands, Larry tries to get tough and get dropped by a right hand and has to decide if he wants to fight or survive. Larry has never faced such a large foe with such talent and power. Vlad has Larry drunk and tired by the 10th round and a Large right hand drops Larry at the end of the 10th Vlad guns for him in the 11th and another right hand followed by a hook puts Larry down RSC shortly after, Vlad by TKO in 11 in a somewhat dominant win....Larry just can not get off

For me Holmes. More punch variation, better footwork and better jab. He's faster and more athletic in my opinion to boot. Wlad is stiff in comparison.

I think Wlad has his moments, his straight right would score, but on the whole I just think Holmes is a more rounded version of the same style. Both methodical, dull power that would take its effect over the distance of a fight and a superb jab.

Generally, even the best version of Holmes had more trouble dealing with hardened come forward fighters. Shavers, Norton, Weaver even at times Cooney. Wlad would not bring that kind of pressure to the table.

Holmes was troubled by good heavyweights, better HW's than the ones Wladimir got smoked by.
Wlad has never lost in his prime, nor troubled in his prime. Wlad's prime is 2007-2012.

Take Norton, for example. Would Wladimir present the same stylistic similarities that Ken did to Holmes? Would Wladimir use the same kind of defense, or offense? No, he would not. This is primarily why saying "lolol holmes lost rds to ken norton how wud he clearly ud wlad?? lolol" means **** all.
So you believe Holmes matches up stylistically against a 6'6 245lb ATG heavyweight with a comparable jab, fast hands, immense one punch knockout power in both fists, great defense, great sense of range, and highly technical skills?

Outboxers are usually bothered by taller outboxers. I would estimate Larry Holmes to have less weaknesses and a better all-round game, but I don't think he has the stylistic advantage here.

Against a wide field of top-class opponents, Larry does better than Wlad, but in a head-to-head match-up, he has to deal with a serious puzzle.

He can fight around Wlad, or forward. I don't think he can outjab him, like so many here do.

The heavy artillery on the outside belongs to Klitschko. The grit and streetdog mentality are on Holmes' side.

I would favor Klitschko in this particular match-up, particularly because the TS stated it would be over 12 rounds. I don't see Larry breaking Wlad down, and I think Wlad holds the advantages in a tactical boxing match.

I don't think Holmes will be able to outbox Wlad ... Holmes relied a lot on his height and reach to win his fights, something that he doesn't have against Waldo

Bad matchup for him

I like this post. While I would rather believe that Holmes would win ( and its not out of the question that he could, ) Wlad has the right set of tools to beat Larry at his own game. My guess is that it would be a very close technical boxing match, with the winner taking it indecisively.

The problem I have with Larry in H2H match ups is the fact he's proved **** all against A level opposition, let alone ATGs. This may be true for Wlad as well, however we see the amazing tool set that Wlad has in his prime, but hes never been bothered while in his prime, the same, on the other hand, cannot be said for Holmes. His best wins are a well past it Norton and a green Witherspoon that both could of gone either way, whilst he was at the pinnacle of his physical abilities. He's not going to out jab Wladimir all night long, but could have success early on when Wlad tends to be very tentative. Holmes ability on the inside also seems to be overrated in this thread as well. He'll have some success, but 4 times out of 5 Wlad will be able to hold Holmes on the inside. Both me had the power to drop their opponent as well, so don't be surprised to see Larry or Wlad hit the deck, but I see this one being a very tight decision. The chances of a knockout are severely increased if this was a 15 rounder.

I think Holmes would start strongly and take an early 4-2 lead after 6 on the cards. At this point in time Wlad gets used to Larry's style and is able to time him on the outside and now hold on the inside as Larry would begin to tire slightly. As Wlad takes over I think Holmes has a late rally in the championship rounds, which could make or break him in this fight. Open to Wlad's awesome power, but also pressing Wlad and putting him under pressure, could lead to Holmes cracking that shaky chin of the younger Klitschko brother. Like I said earlier, either man could drop the other in this fight and I think whoever did would take the victory by the slimmest of margins on the card. 50-50 fight and stylistically very interesting.

Larry fkn smokes him and Norton was a very very SMART fighter who would bash Wlad.

Larry would be laughing his off
"How do I counter a jab which is always followed straight right"
Wladimir tires after 7rounds and the sad part is just about every other HW tires after round 4-5.

Larry Early or Late stoppage.

Larry would not just lose, he would lose every round and get KO'd in 6 or less.

What Larry has is good foot work, smart head and able to take a beating and more importantly he's the type who likes hit people without getting hit, rather then the walk straight into each other because they bench press 200kg like todays shockers.

Look at Vitali vs Lennox;who was past it and ate himself into retirement. Last of the skilled HW boxers.
