green at least takes his beatings, as well as his victories at the weights he sets. whats the problem? his bank balance too healthy for all you retards?

now you are gonna get hated, even though you are right and cameron chased the fight AT THE EXACT WEGHT FOR 3 YEARS.

some dickheads on this forum are jealous cowards, that will not, and can not, admit someone has succeeded where they know they will fail....

in 40 years who will remember decarlo, or demori........or the rest of the jealous crowd?

Good read, he has achieved more than his talent showed, seems like a likeable bloke, always mucking around etc. gave us some good fights, don't agree with the whole ibo thing he went on with after retirement, but hey, he got rjj out here!

I never commented on the ko of rjj, just that he got him here, that being said he looked good against lacy, and no one gave green a chance against him,

DANNY Green wouldn't make my list of the top dozen Australian boxers of all time, but if I was in the trenches and needed someone beside me he'd be the first one I'd pick.

Green has made a career out of being the quintessential Aussie bloke and whenever I think of him fighting I always picture a man in a slouch hat racing across a beach under shell fire never quite sure if he'll make it or not, but willing to give it his all trying.

As Green contemplates retirement this week and looks back at his achievements after his gutsy points decision over the bigger, stronger New Zealand heavyweight Shane Cameron in Melbourne on Wednesday night, two performances will stand out in his mind.

One was his career-defining first-round knockout of Roy Jones Jr when Green was a 5/1 underdog and considered past his best.

The second was his 11th round knockout loss against Poland's WBC cruiserweight champ Krzysztof Wlodarczyk when Green was ahead on points going into the penultimate round only to be Pole-axed by the big bald bully from Warsaw.

Strangely Green is equally as proud of both performances because they sum up the career of a fighting gambler willing to risk it all.

The five losses in Green's career - against Wlodarczyk, Anthony Mundine, German Markus Beyer (twice) and American Antonio Tarver mean he can never be mentioned as a great fighter when compared with the likes of Jimmy Carruthers, Lionel Rose, Kostya Tszyu or Jeff Fenech -- a fabulous foursome who for a time were clearly the best in the world at their weight.

Green's greatest night came when he bombed out Roy Jones in 122 seconds at Sydney's Acer Arena in 2009.

Jones had once been boxing's untouchable champion, a man so fast he made Muhammad Ali look pedestrian.

But by the time Green got his big mitts on him, Jones was damaged goods -- a month shy of his 41st birthday and already a big loser against Tarver, Joe Calzaghe and Glen Johnson.

If Green thought that win, as emphatic as it was, would catapult him into the elite of Australian boxing history he was wrong. Following a points decision over the capable, but hardly extraordinary American BJ Flores, Green was given a boxing lesson last year by the almost 43-year-old Antonio Tarver.

Tarver failed a steroid test after his next fight, but juiced up or not he went into the Green fight ancient and with two losses in his previous three starts.

It's not the win/loss ledger that made Green one of Australia's most popular fighters, but the sort of grit I first saw in the foyer of the Dorint Hotel at Bad Neuenahr, Germany the morning after he had been disqualified for headbutting in a fight he was easily winning against Beyer.

Green had been up all night trying to drown his sorrows with tears and beers and with his red eyes swollen from lack of sleep and sustained weeping, he had the very real fear that his $45,000 purse might be the biggest cheque his young family would ever see.

He promised that morning to fight back. And he never stopped battling.

Even when he had more than enough money to never fight again, he was still struggling to find his feet against Wlodarczyk last year though most of his senses had been crushed.

Everything, that is, except his fighting heart.

This really is a moot point when it comes to Green and Mundine fans

How can people who hate Green be jealous, yet the Mundine haters are not jealous of his success

Why can't people just hate without being jealous?? It's a very overused term.

green doesnt or rarely fights tomato cans, doesnt mouth off, like; "im gunna be boxings bradman, dribble, dribble, dribble." mundine STARTED his career fighting real opponents, even opponents that had much more experience. he pulled many of em out of retirement to do it, but we forgave him because he had little ring time and had few ams experience. but he never stopped dribbling shit. the hate had already strated with some, because of his mouth. i actually still supported him right up to kessler. the dislike of mundine has little to do with jealousy. its his whole package that people dislike.

green fought his way up. he fought few tomato cans. the briggs incident was unfortunate but i believe his heart was in the right place. make your own mind upon that. i actually think there is more racism, or imagined racism where green is concerned. many percieve green fans as rednecks because they are white fellas. the jealously toward green could come from those that see his redneck fans as some sort of proof he is getting an easier ride, hence more money because he is white. i dont believe there is anything in that......but; you can see green in a slouch hat on a horse charging the turkish guns.....but its hard to conjour that vision of mundine.

importantly, there IS some much passion between fans of both green AND mundine themselves, it is quite possible it may be the superfight to end both their careers. that is how closely they have been tied to eachother in this era. so insepperadle and contrasting, that they may end their era and careers in the same ring.

..hard to dissagree with that..
..but i think when it comes to Mundine..everyone close to him knows he's a good bloke..but when it comes to the public's perception of him..well he made his bed..and his millions..when he decided to copy the Ali promotional blueprint..make all the outlandish statements and get everybody payin' to see his arse get knocked out..that is something he and his fans have got to wear..

Article lost me when it mentioned Green and trenches /slouch hats in the same sentence - the blokes no braver then any of the countless millions of soldiers and civilans that have fought in wars. The crap and bullshit sports journos spew up WTF -'' I got Danny Green beside me as I'm about to climb out the trenches and charge into no mans land and german machine gun crossfire in 1917 ''.

..I reckon 99% of boxers are made of the right stuff..they're fighters by nature..put in different circumstances there's every chance that proud warrior spirit would kick in..it's in their blood...if a bloke calibre of Green were born a thousand years ago he would've been a general...
