Default Jack Dempsey vs Ezzard Charles Jersey Joe

What do you think would have happened if Dempsey fought these two men ?

Obviously not at the same time to clarify incase somebody thinks that .... you never know with some people on here

Tunney picked Dempsey to ko both within the first 2 rounds.

No way can Dempsey deal with Jersey Joe's moonwalk.
He'd be cursing, "This is why I don't fight jigaboos !"

You need to be Abe "Too Sweet" Simon to deal with that level of SLICKNESS

Jersey Joe Walcott
v
Fat Sailor Willie Meehan-Farrakhan

I think Dempsey finds it easier against Charles, for sure.

Walcott's movement would cause problems, but Dempsey set such a relentless tempo, I'm not sure if Walcott would be able to get set. I think Walcott drops Dempsey coming in, but gets outworked and ground down by about the 7th or 8th round.

Wallcot made a major technical error spotted by Tunney (at least that was the first I read of it). During his Walcott shuffle he would at times stand with his feet together and hands down. Louis was watching for this opening and you can see in the 11th it happens. Walcott does his shuffle and then in process stands hands down and flat footed in front of Louis. That quickly Louis throws a right hand that staggers him and seconds later Louis scores the KO.

Tough fights, Ezz had a longer run than Tunney at heavyweight and could hit as well as box, Walcott was a master boxer puncher but Jack was ferocious....very tight competitive fights but could they handle Jacks power....over 10-12 rounds could be a Tunney like loss or a Sharkey type KO minus the controversial low blow...Jack had the power but we are talking about tough experienced guys in Walcott and Charles IMO they give any ATG a tough night, Louis,Marciano,Ali,Foreman,Frazier or Dempsey and I am talking about the 32-33 year old version of Charles or the 37 year old version of JJW

Walcott wasn't in his prime when Simon fought him. Unless you want me to bring up a 37 year old firefighter knocking out dempsey cold with 1 left hook?

Why? Because Charles had better skills, faster hands than anyone Dempsey faced?

Tunney?

Charles had fast hands, but if we are going to do comparisons, he was uncomfortable with Pat Valentino's pressure and Rex Layne made things difficult for him before Charles took him out viciously.

A sluggish, methodical and off-pace Joe Louis is not the same as Dempsey in pursuit, in his prime. Dempsey finishes the job quicker than Marciano.

I don't think Jim Flynn was a firefighter.
He was a 'fireman' .. . someone who shovels the coal into a fire for a steam engine.

Maybe Walcott was pretty good when Simon beat him.
Abe Simon was a tough fighter.

Both could outbox him with their jabs and defence, Walcott being the bigger favourite with his movement although Charles the more technically sound.

Dempsey would be looking to pressure and force the fight on the inside, although as counter punchers they could both catch him with KO counter punchers

Tunney also picked Willard to beat Ali

Tunney picked Joe Louis - or any good professional boxer - to beat a silverback gorilla.
