Default A win over Andre Dirrell would improve Ward's legacy

Dirrell is the only fighter in the division with the style/skills to trouble Ward. Will Ward sign to fight him next year?

I think it's an intriguing matchup and I hope it gets made. It's just a shame Dirrell feigned a brain injury to duck Ward the first time round.

Andre Dirrell from his first relevant class fight to now:

2009:

1 fight.

Gets a shot at a world title, shows a great athlete, wins on many cards but has no situational awareness and allows the fight to be too close to assume victory in his opponent's backyard and loses a close one.

2010:

1 fight.

Supposed brain injury in March from a DQ punch after what began the most important showing he'd made against a championship name, but the name who would go on to be dominated by two of the other three big names of the division.

2011:

1 fight.

A fairly irrelevant fight in December. Understandable choice, given the circumstances, but still not anything meaningful on the world class level.

2012:

No fights.

This will not do much for Ward's legacy until he proves he's something in the wake of his supposed brain injury. I'd still like to see the fight, mind. And I'd still likely consider it a "good" win, but nothing more than that at all. He's had two meaningful fights and gone 1-1 in them.

I agree but Dirrell is dirrelevant. I doubt he wants to fight Ward to be honest.

I'd just like to see Dirrell fight 2 or 3 times next year. He looked quality at times vs Froch and exposed Abraham. The experiences from those fights should have made him as a fighter.

I see Ward vs Dirrell as a bigger version of Mayweather vs Judah. Dirrell winning the early rounds making use of his superior hand and foot speed before Ward adjusts and forces the fight on the inside, roughing him up and eventually breaking him down physically and mentally. TKO 9-10 for Ward.

if he can beat Direll convincingly it will let us know that he can pretty much deal with any type of style in boxing.

I'm still waiting on Andre Ward to score one of these:

Dirrell might physically be even more talented than Ward, but he has a few screws loose. As far as I know, no major network wants to broadcast his "fights" because he pussies out.

On a purely physical level, Dirrell had all the tools to become a great fighter, but boxing involves a lot more than physical skill. Dirrell just doesn't have IT on the mental and emotional levels.

It obviously would. What's the point of this thread again?

Yes it would....I can see dirrell winning some meaningful fights in 2013 and ward vs dirrell happening in 2014. Both of these guys can fight at 168 or 175. Both have plenty of time left in their careers too
