and the drugs...forgot to mention the drugs....so...lets see...
3 and half years out...nearly killed last time he fought...ballooned to 15 stone..lost most of it in past 3 months...lived on guiness and pies for 3 years...34 years old, for a light-welter fella...looks dead in the eyes here...like he's just come out of rehab, or a concentration camp... http://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.ne...44745848_n.jpg if you read all this in a book, about a fighter of the past, regardless of his opponent...you'd say it's not going to go well. saying all that...i hope he does well...i'll be cheering him on....but this is all wrong this. |

Yep that's the major worry Doug, That's a lot of weight to lose in a short space of time and is his stamina up to scratch as it's built over time.
For all the stuff we've seen in press we don't know what else he was up to. He's got to fight smart tonight. We may have another Urango fight (holding on) in the second half of proceedings as he slows down. |

Said it from the beginning, I don't rate Senchenko, he would struggle domestically over here imo. If Ricky is even has 50% of what he had he will destroy Senchenko in the first half of the fight.
That said, as skills noted, Ricky has to use some movement to get inside instead of plodding forward and letting Senchenko use his jab to keep him at bay. If he gets a nice rhythm going and can get inside early I don't think he'll have many problems. A lot depends on what he has left though, punch resistance, conditioning, timing, foot and hand speed. We aint going to know until tonight. |

Senchenko has a decent record and he looks solid at Welterweight, big even. He's not flashy, but has a decent enough style and jab to keep Hatton off (or through walking through him easily). The night he lost to Paulie M, may have been an off night and Paulie was very good that fight. His activity and size should cause some problems for even a prime Hatton. Being out of the ring for three and a half years? (is it) What has Hatton got left? Speed less? Power was never fantastic? Stamina less?
In his prime, Hatton took a few rounds to beat up on a number of smaller fighters, lightweights moving up and smaller light welterweights. I cannot see how he can be expected to blast out a big Welterweight after a long layoff at the age of 35. Can he? I wish Hatton and his fans all the best in this fight, I hope he wins, it would be amazing if he turns back the clock and looks good, however, a points win for Ricky here with no injuries would be a decent outcome in my mind.

I've always maintained that Hatton could be a decent welterweight.
However, his choice of opponent first time out, nor his re-hydrating to nearly 160, helped him much. Collazo was southpaw - an area level southpaw would cause Hatton problems - and a decent inside fighter capable of shortening his punches = hard night. Of course the leading welters of this era like Trinidad, DLH and Mosley would all execute him, but there's no reason why he couldn't be competitive with the next tier guys..... trouble is, many of those are southpaws too

"Hatton has never dominated anyone at 147"
That's insightful. He's only fought there twice, one of which was against Floyd Mayweather the best fighter of his generation. The other was against a tall southpaw (Ricky's worst nightmare) where Hatton didn't get his preparation right. |
