Default Is it feasible to rank Wills over Roy Jones in an ATG list?

Thoughts?

No, although he has multiple wins over quality fighters.

Jones has 'achievement' and footage on his side and a lot of decent wins and a couple of 'wow' victories.

No contest for me.

RJ all the way. Wills could fight though.

And dominance. Freakish dominance, at that.

Talking about these guys that we really can't study on film has never been a favorite topic of mine... but I am voting for Jones. Just because it's not a favorite topic of mine doesn't mean that I don't know a shit load about old fighters like Wills... I do.

Wills was a very good fighter. 6'2" with a 77" reach and about 210 Lbs. He went 87-10-6 (54) 5ND in 108 pro fights (at least from one source) overall. He was only stopped 5 times. He was the Colored HW World Champ but never got a shot at the HW World Title for obvious reasons.

He fought a lot of good fighters several times but some of those fights were little more than exhibitions even though they count as wins, losses, and draws on his record. With that said, his record states that he faced-

George Kid Cotton (LKOby2 very early in his career). He went 4-1 (4) vs. Cotton lifetime. Cotton was nothing special.

Joe Jeannette, he went 1-0-2 vs. Jeannette.

Sam Langford, he went 13-2-2 (2) vs. Langford but was stopped in both of the losses.

Willie Meehan W4

Sam McVea, he went 3-2 (1) 1NC vs. McVea

Battling Jim Johnson (LKOby2) He went 2-1 vs. Johnson lifetime. Johnson was a durable fighter but nothing special.

Fred Fulton KO3

Luis Firpo W12

Late in his career he lost to-

Jack Sharkey LDQ13
Paulino Uzcudun LKOby4

17 fights vs. Langford! I couldn't imagine they went at it 100% serious everytime.

Yes.
If Wills can be argued over Dempsey, he can be argued over RJJ.
