MaCdonald is a solid wrestler, but his top game is nothing special, Condit may have an active guard but MaCdonald couldnt get much done against him in terms of control or damage, and he was in danger of being submitted, plus he was sweeped multiple times, Penn is a better all round grappler than MaCdonald, whilst MaCdonald may have a better conventional double leg, Penn has much much more in terms of attacking resilience

Fitch took Penn down 3 times in the third round. He reversed him once in the first, once in the second.

I understand it's been worn out by now but MacDonald was just 20 years old. You're right - from that fight he did have a lot of work to do. But I think he's worked out the kinks. Penn is the better overall grappler, there's no denying that.

Did we seen MacDonald's submission defense tested in the Condit fight?

IF BJ is in shape, and has cardio to last 5 rounds then this would be a better style matchup then Jones vs Sonnen.

Yeah there's plenty of good fights on the card, but 3 legitimate big-name, consequential fights in a row.

Lightweight title fight - no explanation needed for why that's a great free-TV fight.

Shogun-Gustafsson - a gold-plated ATG on the ass end of his career gets to test himself against an exciting prospect. Either Shogun reignites his career and gets right back in the mix, or Gustafsson has his breakout fight and announces himself as a viable title contender.

Penn-MacDonald - same as above. Either Penn turns back the clock and wins what would probably be looked at years from now as a very significant legacy fight, or MacDonald officially announces himself as a top contender. Faded as BJ is, you don't beat him if you're not a top-level guy.

Actually, looking at the card, every fight seems to have potential for fireworks.

Except for maybe LeVesseur/Chiesa.

Also as already been mentioned Sonnen vs Jones is probably as big of mismatch as Penn/ Silva.

This is not to mention all the shot, old legends that made MMA what it is today.. andthey continue to put up against young incredibly talented fighters. UFC is not against mismatches...
GSP vs Silva is a big of mismatch as anything, but there all for it.

Diaz definitely won the fight, but it gets over-exaggerated. The 2nd round was badly one-sided, but BJ won the first and the 3rd was a clear Diaz round, but BJ was still fighting back and landing shots.

But i agree. Anderson would toy with BJ.
