Should the US federal government step in and regulate boxing?

Keep the government out of professional sport. What is needed is one governing body and one freaking champ per weight class. Only then can we start talking about regulation.

You realize we now have 51 government agencies involved in boxing now don't you? You think this is better than one that has ONE standard for all fighters/fights? Look at DC. They let Pederson keep his win and belt by refusing to do anything about his lying on the medical disclosure form. The New York commission said they didn't care if Morales tested positive because it wasn't THEIR test he failed. Yeah, best to let organized crime run boxing. That is a MUCH better solution I guess.

The government has no place in regulating any professional sport. Who is going to pay for it? The boxers? Hell no! Most can't even make a living until they have 20+ fights with a winning record. Just this Thursday and Friday there are about 47 matches. With most of these guys lucky to take home a few hundred bucks. You get the government involve and it will mean tax money will be going to pay for what is essentially a private business.

Federal regulation of a sport is unconstitutional.

The other side is that massive regulation fixes none of the issues and simply makes it harder to away from the bad eggs and will limit the commissions that are cutting edge in terms of implementing replay, stricter testings and etc.

Every state has an athletic commission regardless of boxing. Every other professional sports abide by the state athletic commission as well as their own governing body. Nowhere is the federal government involve in a professional sport nor should they start now.

They have no authority granted by the constitution to do so. The constitution then states all powers not vested to the federal government via the constitution are the domain of the states and the people.

States have exercised their power to regulate their respective boxing commissions.

I think a more grounded solution would be for various states, California, Nevada, Florida, and etc. to make a united commssion, but you would have problems with people breaking it for big money fights.
