Are you from the states or somewhere else? Adam Lopez, as you can see had a good hook to begin with, the only problem is that, you will get robbed alot in the amateurs, cos they prefer boxer types. Adam Lopez, was a body puncher, with a good left hook, and he lost many close decisions.
Are you thinking of one day turning pro? If you are then, work on developing a pro style with a great left hook.

Yes I am from the states and I hate the way fights are scored in amateur. I like adam, am a body punchers with a big hook because of my short stature and punching power (not trying to brag) but I agree I do tend to punch with bad intentions rather than just "score" in the amateurs and Yes I plan to trun pro

I've trained at three gyms in my time, two trainers weren't bothered about whether the palm was facing you or the ground, one gym is absolutely insistent that the palm faces the ground. In boxing, I say go with what's comfortable for you, and what works in your style - Mayweather throws his more like a slap with his palm facing him rather than the ground

I use both palm down or palm inward when I throw hooks.

One thing I found useful for really cleaning up my palm down technique was to hold a knife in an icepick grip and imagine the slice perfectly cutting the air everytime I threw a hook. Did wonders for my efficiency and accuracy.

How old are you, how much do you weigh? If you can stay amateur, do so depending on where you are, cos there might not be any pro action. Learn to fight like a pro and practice those moves while gathering experience. Chances are you will get more action as an amateur than as a pro. They are going to rob you anyway, so forget about trying to convince amateur judges that body punches count. Just gather that experience putting to use what you learn in the gym.

Here's some great left hook artist's that you may or may not know.
Eduardo Lausse

Florentino Fernandez,

This clip is the 10 best left hook ko's, and most if not all the ko's were scored with the palm facing inward.

Battle of great left hookers, Carlos Zarate (tall) vs Alfonso Zamora(short)

Seems to me that the top pro's favor the thumb point up or slightly turned inward, they all seem to whip it in there.

Palms down is slightly better for snap and range but it also makes it more likely to break the two smallest knuckles hence why the vertical fist came about. The vertical fist has a negligible drop in power and range and protects your hands better. The choice my friend is yours.

i dont like the palm down way at all.apparently any other way doesnt score in the amateurs but the technique is crap and lack power.i discourage the kids in our club from throwing them.
