Thumbs up Matt Skelton

Whether he's 45 or 49 the guys past his prime and has been for a while yet he came in there tonight and give it a right go. I think the way the towel came in Saunders and him knew they had little chance but wanted once last go at glory.

He was brave and bold and showed up efforts from likes of Sam ***ton IMO. I've been a fan of Matt for a long time, I dunno always found his mauling style funny and interesting.

The way he showed no respect to anyone and loved a ruck. I think he's shown what hard work can do. The true definition of ''giving it a go''.

I hope he has a happy retirement if he is to do so. I will never forget the night he thought Williams and blood spurted out of his head and he gave the Bedford Bear Roar. Legend .

May not be the best fighter of all time but he gave us some good honest fights and his world title effort against Chagaev was valliant as well.

Matt's a stand-up guy, and that has to be respected.

He always gave it his best. And you can't ask for more than that!

All the best, Matt!

Price REALLY needs to step up his competition! That or dump Maloney (who I cannot ****ing stand. He is the worst promoter going).

A Fury fight has got to happen next!

Great post. Skelton deserves the utmost respect for his career. A real gutsy fighter who always gave it his all despite his flaws. He did pretty damn good in his career.

Love him or loathe him, Maloneys done a great job with Price so far. He keeps Price in the public eye, AND keeps him busy. Price looks like he has the potential to be a Hattonesque ticket seller in my eyes, Price reminds me very much personality wise of a young Ricky. i.e the type of guy that the british public will buy into BIG time.

As for Skelton though, which punch actually hurt him? I struggled to see it. There for the payday, early towel thrown in just to make sure, nice little earner for the old yin, hardly went out on his sword. Bye bye Matt, but lets be honest, you wont be missed.

I like Skelton both in and out of the ring but clearly he has limited options now- perhaps a fight with Chisora might benefit both men.

Not sure myself, Price is just a bit too staid to have popular appeal. He's a well drilled boxer and a consummate professional but the public like their heroes flawed. Ricky's popularity was owed more to his inter-fight drinking and gluttony than his fighting ability. I reckon Fury, though probably less able (at least for now - he's got a few years to catch up) - has the greater break-out potential: terrestrial TV deal, "characterful" lapses of good sense, family ructions etc.

Fat Mick did a better job with Fury. Maloney's a ****ing godawful promoter in this day and age, although TT is a step in the right direction

He actually did okay against Chagaev. Just lacked a bit of class but wasn't out of his depth.

Looking at it tonight though I don't think his corner (and maybe him) really believed. Soon as he was taking a few shots corner had the towel in, that was obviously a predetermined idea. Seemed like he came out, threw a few punches to see if it was going to have any real effect on Price's demeanor, when it didn't and Price began to tee off they were always gonna stop it.

I'm a fan of Skelton. He's not the best boxer out there but I always have a soft spot for guys who aren't too refined but make up for that with their sheer determination. Skelton has been in some fun fights, plus, he'll be fondly remembered for this:

He got in a pretty snazzy headbutt there, too. He knows how to make a fight a fight. You can't take that away from him.
