'Plans for an eagerly anticipated rematch never materialised, with Klitschko yesterday offering an interesting explanation for why that was the case. "Lennox promised me but his mum decided he wasn't going to fight," said the 38-year-old ahead of the Laureus World Sports Awards in Abu Dhabi. "He invited me to London, without managers. He said he wanted to talk just together. I came to the room and his mum is there. We talked for two hours and his mum was looking at me and scanning me.

"After that I went away and he called me a couple of hours later and said, 'Sorry, but no'. I felt it wasn't his decision, his mum decided. I tried to change his decision, but it's difficult.'

He already beat the guy at his worst when the guy he faced he was at his best.
SO that's why, nothing else to prove. Mission acomplished.

Then why did he promise it on the first place...why did they meet in the hotel room to discuss terms with Lennox's mother.

This rematch would have saved boxing, unfortunate.

Thats what Lennox and some ppl. like to believe.

Dont give us that bullshit that there was nothing else to prove.

Everybody in the boxing world was screaming for the rematch, fans(not britards), boxing experts, writers, promoters, commentators;they all felt that the result didnt reflect the fight...and thats why the huge demand of the rematch.

As a great champion as he was, Lennox left the sport with his tail tucked between his legs...and thats mainly because of his actions and declarations AFTER the fight.

He talked big, saying that he will hurt Vitali badly in the rematch, and the 30mil (fight purse) would be the easiest money earned in his career///but when it came the time to sign the papers he ran into retirement.

Aren't you tired of saying nonsense like "he beat the guy at his worst". Lennox was an experienced pro and undisputed Champion. He was well prepared for that fight. Lennox and Steward were talking up Lennox's great training camp and conditioning right after Kirk Johnson pulled out. They were giving a ringside interview to HBO and they said that they wanted to keep that fight date because it was such a great camp, they would hate for it to go to waste.

Guess what? Lewis' great conditioning showed in his fight against Vitali. Had Lewis not been in great shape, he never would have made it out of the second round... and that's reality. Only great conditioning can explain overcoming and battering like he took in that round, and coming back stronger afterward to make a fight of it. Fighters in bad shape can't recover like that.

We all know that if Lennox actually felt that he beat Vitali at his best, while he himself was at his worst... then he would have definitely taken over 25 million for the rematch. We know better than that.

why did Lewis promise a rematch and then retire? WHY?

B/C he didnt want to risk ending his career with a devastating loss. Klitshcko had his number. Why risk ending a GOAT type career on an ugly KO loss when he was able to end it on an even uglier T/KO win?

A smart move by a Guy who was at the end of his career and had nothing more to prove. He was Undisputed HW Champion beat the two greatest Fighters of his generation. He was at an advanced Boxing age. Win or Lose Klitschko would have been a risk for Lewis. Plus he already beat him
