Aren't you tired of saying nonsense like "he beat the guy at his worst". Lennox was an experienced pro and undisputed Champion. He was well prepared for that fight. Lennox and Steward were talking up Lennox's great training camp and conditioning right after Kirk Johnson pulled out. They were giving a ringside interview to HBO and they said that they wanted to keep that fight date because it was such a great camp, they would hate for it to go to waste.

Guess what? Lewis' great conditioning showed in his fight against Vitali. Had Lewis not been in great shape, he never would have made it out of the second round... and that's reality. Only great conditioning can explain overcoming and battering like he took in that round, and coming back stronger afterward to make a fight of it. Fighters in bad shape can't recover like that.

We all know that if Lennox actually felt that he beat Vitali at his best, while he himself was at his worst... then he would have definitely taken over 25 million for the rematch. We know better than that.

why did Lewis promise a rematch and then retire? WHY?

B/C he didnt want to risk ending his career with a devastating loss. Klitshcko had his number. Why risk ending a GOAT type career on an ugly KO loss when he was able to end it on an even uglier T/KO win?

A smart move by a Guy who was at the end of his career and had nothing more to prove. He was Undisputed HW Champion beat the two greatest Fighters of his generation. He was at an advanced Boxing age. Win or Lose Klitschko would have been a risk for Lewis. Plus he already beat him

Realised his time was up so retired.

It's funny how he will be criticised for this yet he got out at the right time, unlike guys that fight on well past their best and end up losing to fighters that wouldn't get near them at their peak.

Because he may have lost the rematch and he wanted to go on a high? Whats wrong with a past it 39 year old man wanting to retire on top by stopping a future HW champ who will go on to be one of the most dominant of his era.

Lewis was 37, almost as old as Wladimir today

"If the money is right, yea definitly"
Lewis is a guy with a net worth of 100 million pounds, a few million dollars extra aren't worth the dent on his resume.

He didn't promise anything.

To be fair, didn't Vitali have a very short camp?

As you well know,he retired because, unlike many ATGs,he realised at the right time that it wasn't there anymore.Since your real agenda is pro-Vitali,the fact is that Vitali wasn't really that important at the time, and Lennox was correct to think that he'd just destroyed a guy's face when he was probably only about 50-60% of what he had been,so how was he to know that Vitali would still be plodding on all these years later when he couldn't even beat the only ATG he ever fought, despite that ATG being fat and past it?

But you already know this,as you're an alt and have discussed this a million times before.

he saw what happened to his original opponent Kirk Johnson and knew the chances of a cut stopping Vitali again was slim. Vitali was on the up.

Lewis gets older everytime that this topic is brought up. He went from being 37 when he fought Vitali to being, 38 about a month after the fight... then 39... later on people just started using the old "pushing 40" trick... pretty soon Lewis will have been a senior citizen when he fought Vitali.

Lennox was in his prime, just like Wlad is right now. About the same age too... just as Vitali was around that same age. The bigger heavyweights like those guys have shown to take longer to mature and enter their technical prime much later than smaller fighters.
