Sugar Ray Leonard. It would be a competitive affaire, since Napoles is brilliant. The rythm of Napoles and timing of his counter-rushes and combination would be difficult to pull off against someone with the footwork, handspeed and boxing ability of Leonard.
Close UD, imo, on stylistic advantage between men of similar class. I'd love to see it. |

It depends on what year or age for the fighters.
Ray Leonard a 'natural' 150 lb. fighter - who would only have to cut a few pounds to make 147. Jose Napoles, a natural 143 lb. fighter, who bulked up later in his career. Could see a bout much like the "Ray Leonard - Roberto Duran I" bout, with 'Mantequilla' pressing hard early - and in the middle rounds, to build up a solid lead, and edging out a close 15-Round Decision. 145-143 (7-5-3 in Rounds) |

As exceptionally fast as Leonard was, Napoles was the complete package. In a competitive bout that most likely goes the distance, Napoles outclasses Leonard by UD. Not to dismiss Ray's talent, but Mantequilla just had a little too much of everything.

Leonard doesn't let the samba dancer get set, and out boxes him. Possibilly gets a late stoppage. It's a replay of Ray Leonard/Andres Aldama. There's nothing unique to Napoles style compared to other Cubans. They make a coupple of moves and stop to throw a punch or two. Than repeat Other boxers might do this as well, but Cuban's do it in a more exaggerated and predictable manner. Watch Leonard/Aldama. It won't matter if we are talking pre Duran II leonard or post Duran II Leonard. He beats Napoles either way.

Leonard, UD or a late cuts stoppage. Would be close and competitive throughout, but Napoles cut easily, and I can't see it holding up too well against someone like Leonard.

On paper this LOOKS competitive but compare the careers of both men & u will see that Leoanrd's career accomplishments dwindle into insignificance.
Napoles is a legend. Ray leonard,, is not JN simply too busy on offense. On defense, most of Sugar's efforts fly harmlessly over the head. The legend claims another victim |

A good chess match type of bout until the latter phases. Leonard explodes and stops Jose by tko. Napoles was great, but at welter,I'd only make one man favourite to beat Leonard.
