Post Leonard I, I pick DLH. Pre-Leonard, Duran might win a competitive decision. And a lot depends on how committed De La Hoya is to boxing.

Well, yeah, should state that I base my pick of decisive Duran victory over Montreal Duran or a similar incarnation.

The best Oscar against New Orleans Duran probably wins, and he might be able to take him at 154.

In their primes, though, it's a bit of a mismatch. Both guys are skilled, but one guy had two devastating fists and was a freaking savage.

this won't be a popular answer but prime vs prime at 147, i'm going to take de la hoya by decision. oscar's jab is going to give the shorter duran hell.

De La Hoya never came into a fight uncommitted which means no matter what Leonard and Duran would of had their hands full at 147 no matter what PERIOD (get your head outta your ass)

I don't believe you and I will have many others who agree with us.

So you just wrote that Leonard and Duran would have their hands full with Oscar after saying Oscar would never beat Duran? I was talking about De La Hoya's fight tactics. He lost the Mosley fight by trading and being flatfooted a lot, but should've won the rematch on the cards because he jabbed and moved more.

Even though Duran's prime weight was lightweight, I would still pick him to outpoint De La Hoya at welterweight. Duran > De La Hoya, period.

I'd still pick No Mas Duran to beat Hoya...just not as convincingly.

I'd pick Hoya to take the softer looking, less prepared Roberto from the Speedy Gonzalez and Jimmy Heair fights.

Oscar is more upright, he's utterly dependent on his jab and his big left hook. It's his whole offense. He was a stud as a technician, but only when in control; He got worse the more things devolved(When Mosley made it ugly, Oscar looked like a club fighter swinging from the hips), and he had ZERO right until late in his career.

Duran would make it ugly, he'd make it less then clean, and Oscar would need more than his jab, hook, and speed to right the ship; He'd need a big right hand, too, and he'd need to counter to keep Duran honest.

I seriously doubt Duran wins the first two rounds. Oscar might even take the first three or four, off the speed, the skills, and the jab. But Duran was a master at making a fight exactly what he wanted and Oscar lacked the well rounded toolset and, most importantly, the great composure, to do anything about it.
I agree with this analysis.
