That was before he was promoting himself using a bought WBA Superchampion belt, he was promoted by Universum then. Öner explains how he was allowed to cherry pick and evade mandatory defenses by becoming Superchampion. Makes perfect sense to me.

The fact remains that Sturm would pick and choose his opponents without the risk of getting stripped for not fighting his mandatories. Just look at Geale, he was basically told you either defend your belt or get stripped, without even giving him atleast one pick of his choice before defending the belt. What Oner is saying has a lot of truth to it.

No one outside of Germany even knows who he is because of his lackluster opposition over the years. How can these guys consider themselves champions when the entire world knows it's someone else.
