Pacquiao dominated the likes of De La Hoya, Clottey, Margarito, Cotto, Mosley and Hatton. I know about all the underlying circumstances surrounding some of those fights, but it does not change the fact that he dominated those guys. Enter Juan Manuel Marquez, a guy who, prior to their 4th fight, had been knocked down 4 times by Pacquaio in their previous fights, eventhough he had won more rounds, come in and get a resounding KO. Is their anyone in the forum who thinks Marquez beats ONE of the aforementioned fighters that Pacquaio beat, let alone in the fashion he beat them? No disrespect to Marquez but I don't see him beating any of those guys, which in my opinion is a true testament to the "styles make fights" adage.

You're right styles make fights. Many of those fighters have advantages like height, weight, longer reach, which would be a problem for JMM's style.

yes...or a late round stoppage. Also, the Oscar that Pac fought was really really really shot....he might have stood a honest chance with him as well. Not the others however (and Oscar and Hatton still isnt certain).

Im fairly convinced that the JMM adjusted to welter would destroy Hatton, who has even less defense, speed or power.
I think Cotto is a interesting fight at 140 as Cotto was still pretty chinny there. Clottey has big size advantages but tends to just coverup for extended periods. ODLH at 147 was a shell. Margarito i think poses a stylistic nightmare, even though he would be there to be hit all night i think he could just bull through JMM who is probably just too small. |

Very very true - no one has managed to give Pacquiao that kind of trouble. Morales beat Pacquiao but Pacquiao gave away rounds as he started looking for a 1 punch KO worried the fight would be stopped because of his eye.
Marquez's style will always make for brilliant fights with Pacquiao - the style of these 2 summarises the phrase "the Sweet Science" Bring on V, that's what I say...the best fight in years! |

Yup, and JMM and Pac are the same size pretty much. Pac also has that huge speed advantage over his bigger opponents, an advantage JMM wouldn't have over any of them, well against Margo he would, but not a big time advantage like Manny had. He would have his moments against them i think, but ultimatly their massive size advantage would be too much IMO. |

he can, if its the marquez that KOed pac.
but I'd favor tony, clottey and mosley over marquez This is why boxing is so great, all the styles there is to watch and how they mesh up with other styles. Hearns, duran, benitez, srl..The only style who doesn't have a blueprint atm is floyd |
