Default why do many boxing coaches think boxing is damn different from other sports???

before i begin my rant lol

i have been boxing for over 10 years with a few different coaches,
i have also done bjj-grappling, wrestling and other martial arts and weight training
so i have been around a bit

but one thing has really annoyed lately with my coach,

why the fcuk does he think that boxing is different and special from other sports..

you tell him whatever
muay thai guys or hockey players or whatever
do this or that for speed or power

the answer is always
well they are not boxers, boxing is different

interesting that in other combat sports i have done
the people and coaches seem to understand that
all combat sports are related and training methods
can be shared, while understanding that all have unique aspects to them.

but not some of these boxing coaches
today he was asking me about my running lately
and another boxer mentioned
circut training,
the answer "that maybe works for mma or wrestlers,
boxers dont need that"

like what the ****, seriously
now this is not a debate about circuts vs running etc
but it looks like some of these coaches dont want to do any research at all

and ofcourse, this guy is anti-weights(thinks anything weight training besides punching with 2 pound weights is BODYBUILDING)
said that even if your threating an injury, NO WEIGHTS

so like many he will tell you the greatness of body weight excerises
but i noticed he doesnt really now much about them
when it comes to proper form,
what is the main muscle being used, which is secondary etc

last week he told my friend
"if you want to build muscle and look good
just run"

my friend is 270 pounds and was concerned with injuring his knees etc
the coach says no no, running will only make things stronger

If your happy with his skills teaching then keep him and do what YOU feel is right for you conditioning wise. sounds like you know more about it then he does lol but allot of these guys are good solid skill teachers but just don't know much about conditioning, but if your not happy with the way he is teaching you boxing skills move on

I was speaking in terms of conditioning only, example I've trained and fought in Thailand and can attest that at the time I was there (mid 90's) that their conditioning techniques had not changed in decades yet the trainers were top notch in skill teaching and the body mechanics that directly apply to the techniques.

Yap,that was the same story here until my coach realized he was blowing in the dark,so now he just let me do my own thing and some of the other boxers in the club as well.
But in other clubs were i was, that was atrocius.
The s&c advices were scary, really scary, and lets say in one example, we are talking here about a guy who has 3 AIBAS stars, and has 2 boxers in WSB.
The shit he does, and gets away for it..........
I think its an ego issue.Like why the hell would i ask someone for advices this is my club and im a ****ing BOXING coach, this aint no sissy sport.
But here its the same with thai boxing as well,do not touch the weights cause it will kill you attitude.

Don't really know where your going with this? I'm not looking to debate on opinions there has to be another thread on the forum for that? the guy asked a question and I responded with my 0.2$ based on MY experience and MY opinion not speaking for anyone else nor do I deem myself all knowing enough to do so

I do not think boxing coaches are so "special" in this sense

Generally, majority of coaches / mentors I met just do not like to innovate / grow / learn themselves. They stick to traditions, rather than logic. This is why there are very few great coaches.

the boxing skills he teaches are great,
he is really good with with the actual boxing
and i have learned a lot from him

but its just the ignorance that is quite annoying
especially when the guy is talking like an expert in
the field....

the thing is he is not first guy i met like this
and someone mentioned how old school guys in muay thai
similarly hate weights etc

i just find that funny many of these types of guys preach
bodyweight stuff and running
but in reality
dont even know the fundamentals of those...

like that bodyweight exercises are also resistance training
and if weights can make you stuff
a ton of bodyweight stuff can have a similar effect

My advice is find another coach that is more to your liking, what you are saying is boxing or boxing coach are not for you. Find an MMA coach as you said they know. This boxing coach you are talking about sounds like a bucket carrier wanna be. No wonder you are pissed. The real problem is that at the beginner or non-professional level, you are going to find wanna be's. The good coaches are looking for talent, and usually wont spend time on a newbe or a non-professional. In your case you seem to be doing it to keep in shape and practice whatever you are working on. If you have this coach still advising you, then it's not his fault that you are listening to him its your fault for staying there. Find a coach you can respect and is saying the things you wanna hear, why do you keep listening to this coach is beyond me. Find another coach or you become a coach and teach the stuff you know. Its that simple.

4eyes, you have run into the well known yap pack, who just piss on anything anybody has to say. The yappers are no-talent wanna be's who couldnt get a good coach to even listen to them. They come on here telling everybody that they know and boxing coaches are full of fecal matter and no nothings. Maybe if these yappers knew there was a door to the gym where that useless coach is and that they could use the same door and walk out. It's just that they are frustrated and whining, they havent figured that they can use the same door that they came in to leave, duh!
