[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] my grandad from london told me about this guy and thought he was gonna make a storm in the heavyweights at the time. my uncle on my other side who comes from liverpool who was also another boxing fan also said the exact same thing this means he was a nationwide known heavywieght unbeaten and a commonwealth champion it made me wonder, how good was he?

He was OK, but far too small to make it as a Heavy.
I went to the Waters fight (it was meant to be McKenzie/Sot From a boxing point of view he should of tried to boil down to 190, and having a victory over Wamba could of meant he may of been a threat there. But at Heavy his stablemates Mason and Bruno would of beaten him comfortably IMO. |

I remember him. He was pretty good at British level, but if I remember correctly he wasn't huge, and I believe he was forced to retire with some kind of injury.
My main memory of him was his last fight with Hughroy Curry. Somebody in the crowd kept on shouting "Put him to sleeep Horace, put him to sleeep!" |

Horace was tidy enough and not bad to be honest, he retired with a detached retina after the Hughroy Currie fight. He had a couple of good wins against Anaclet Wamba who was decent at the time and proud Kilimanjero if memory serves. His power was decent if not huge think he ko'd most of his opponents (but happy to be corrected on that one). He was not the biggest but I always liked Horace and its always a shame when an undefeted fighter has to retire through injury |

the fight that sticks in my mind is the one with proud kiliminjaro a huge african fighter.
curry was a quite talented fighter but lacked a bit of dedication. notice was a fighter who would give everything and it was a shame for himself he had to retire before he could fufill his dreams and make a bit of money. |

My pops saw him a lot and he was his favourite domestic heavyweight. He took me to his fight with Hughroy Currie as a 9 year old.
The ole man gave me a programme of one of his fights in '86 at the Albert Hall. On the undercard was a young Michael Watson, Tony Laing and Clinton Mckenzie. Last edited by slip&counter; 12-11-2012 at 07:00 PM. |
