Does anyone think he needs to change up his training to incorporate more emphasis on D? Khan, JCCjr, Pac--all extreme O and no good D. You can only get away with a power offense and good matchmaking for so long. At some point you will run into an opponent that can trade with you and not be hit as much during exchanges.

Nacho put a Voodoo curse on Roach when he asked for Freddie to autograph stuff before Marquez III. He went all Papa Shango on his azz:

He's had a bad year. Has been a good tactician, can't be that they picked bad opposition for all his fighters. Are there problems in training. He will have to make some changes. In addition to those listed above, he has a number of other fighters, many of who have done ok. But does he need to drop some?

Pac - was beating Marquez, but got caught slipping twice (not Roach's fault)
Kahn - was outboxing Garcia, got caught with equilibrium shot, didn't hold (not Roach's fault) Chavez - fought a MUCH better fighter, was smoking pot during training camp (not Roach's fault) The one thing I do notice here is a lack of discipline and focus. I do believe Roach is training too many fighters these days, but his superstars are responsible for their own discipline and focus. Roach can't force Chavez to give up drugs during camp. He can't force Pacquiao to quit one of his billion jobs and cut the giant entourage of leaches out of his life. I think you guys are being disrespectful to Roach. Look at Manny's head movement and strategy against Marquez, it was GREAT. Had he stuck with the game plan and stayed focused, he was on his way to stopping the Mexican great. |

He has had the worst year for an elite trainer. But give the guy a break. He lives for boxing, it's a bit of a miracle how he carries out his work with his condition.
And also, it does boil down to the fighters at the end. Martinez & Marquez are p4p top 5, Junior had some erratic training behaviour. Khan decided to go macho and go toe to toe. |
