Default WSB (World Series of Boxing) - Season 3 ***Champions: Kazakhstan Astana Arlans***

We are four weeks into the season.

Overview, for those who aren't familiar:

"The World Series of Boxing or WSB is an international boxing competition for amateur boxers, organised by AIBA. Unlike traditional amateur boxing, competitors taking part in sanctioned World Series of Boxing bouts must be bare-chested and are not permitted to wear protective headgear. Each participating boxer is drafted by one of a number of international franchises and can earn money by taking part in professional-style bouts. However, they maintain amateur status and remain eligible to compete at the Olympic Games. Like professional boxing, each bout is decided by the scores of three judges or, in some cases, by a knockout, technical knockout or walk-over. A WSB meet between two international franchises consists of bouts in five weight categories. There are five three-minute rounds in each bout and the team that wins the most number of bouts wins the meet."

That is one way of looking at it, but for better or worse we're stuck with it for now. AIBA is really invested in it and probably won't throw in the towel any time soon, so long as it's even vaguely popular (even if only in a few of the participating countries).

To put a positive spin on it, this does help prep top amateurs for the transition into the pro game and help them "shed" that ugly amateur style and bad habits that many retain well into their pro careers, and to acclimate to the pro style & scoring system.

i think its a loss maker bankrolled by oil rich ex soviet states so it could stick around for a while.from what I see on it doesn't get great fan interest.look in the brit forum nobody is bothered about their team
btw american commissions decided to count wsb fights as pro fights I believe

Did AIBA Lie to the World Series of Boxing Fighters?
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Quote:
Before the fight, Torres was informed by the promotional firm that according to FightFax.com, the record keeping standard for boxing, had his record at 3-6. The fights listed were all fights under the WSB banner.

While he ended up fighting on the card and stopping his opponent in one round, Torres had to suffer the humiliation of being announced as 3-6 instead of his 1-0. Suddenly, he went from every promoter’s dream, a Mexican heavyweight who can be marketed, to arguably the most important demographic in boxing to a fighter with an opponent’s record.

“I’m back to step one,” said Torres. “All I’ll say is things changed.”

What’s even worse is that Javier Torres is not alone. The WSB employed well over a 100 fighters. Roughly 60 of those fighters are competing in the Olympics this year. To clarify what this means for promoters and managers looking to sign fresh talent out of this graduating class of amateurs is very simple: because of the WSB’s apparent failure to secure an agreement with the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC), a large portion of the amateur boxing’s top talent has been tainted. Anyone hoping to promote a signee as an undefeated prospect will not be able to do so unless some sort of agreement can be reached. And the fighters, all of whom were quality enough to compete neck and neck with top international talent are now stuck trying to explain that the losses they suffered are not supposed to count in the pro ranks. The possibility that some of the losses suffered were the results of home biased scoring is also very real.
this was written n august i think not sure if it has been fixed

What's going on with the Otamans?

On paper they look poised to dominate with that roster, but they've got an overall losing record so far.

Anybody who wants to turn pro still will, the only difference is they'll get experience with pro rules fighting 5 and 7 round fights against MUCH better compitition than they would in their first year or two as a pro fighting 4 and 6 rounders.

None of the Olympians have fought yet (Lomachenko, Usyk, Khytrov, Berinchyk, Gvozdyk) they'll start to after the holidays. They've been touring Ukraine helping to promote the sport.

I like it. Something new i.e team concept and it gives a taste of Pro boxing and a chance to earn some money while still retaining Olympic eligibility. It is also top quality amateurs fighting other top quality amateurs straight up as opposed to the garbage we get now with good amateurs going Pro and having 15 -20 fights before they fight some one who may challenge them.

Ah, those are the ones I was talking about. Huge depth. They should be able to turn it around then.
