Default Re: My prediction 2013: Geale defeats Golovkin

Karaganda you were already spot on in the first page earlier. Most people here agreed Golovkin is not the hardest to hit, but he was more easily hit with straight jabs when it seemed to Ouma was giving it to him from the outside as well the uppercuts he was eating but again it goes back to his light power which showed it wasn't enough to make Golovkin become hesistant.

That's where I believe Geale will struggle, he may frustrate Golovkin early, but he doesn't have the power to discourage Golovkin nor does he possess a decent enough jab to go in with or let alone keep his opponent at bay which in my opinion would be the only way to go as using his usual plan on the inside will give Golovkin too many openings that Geale can't afford to just absorb them all when he would be trying to come forward.

Leftsmash,

I totally agree. Geale is in some ways tailormade for Golovkin. But Geale has shown guts by travelling to Germany to take on both Sebastian Sylvester and Felix Sturm. After a few fights in Australia I believe a Geale-Golovkin fight in late 2013/early 2014 is a real possibility.

There are several things I agree with in your analysis, Geale's stamina is indeed excellent and was perhaps the key factor in his win over Sturm.
His defense is however rather medium, partly because he is too occupied throwing shots himself which is also part of his defense - swarm his opponent with shots, making them think defensively. But he does get hit. Sturm landed several good shots right on his chin. Geale's chin held up very well however. Do keep in mind that Sturm's KO percentage is a lousy 38% - Sturm is simply not a powerful puncher.

Golovkin did also take shots from both Ouma and Proksa, but I have some doubts about the power. Ouma especially is a light puncher, 45% KO ratio, a tight defense and more or less punches to spoil, at least against Golovkin. Golovkin hurt by Ouma? Take a look at Golovkin's face after the fight, there is hardly any swelling whatsoever. You are however correct about the way Ouma exposed a weak area in Golovkin's way of fighting. Ouma was able to punch first and then get away before getting hit with something serious in return. I have watched the Ouma fight several times and it is only superficially close for the first couple of rounds. Once Golovkin gets to Ouma's body it is downhill from there.

Could Geale use the same tactics? I do not think so. He does not move fast enough and does not jab hard enough. Remember that he needs to win the fight, not just survive it. I believe Pirog jabs hard enough and Dirrel/Martinez moves fast enough but Geale...sorry.

Since you most likely have seen more Geale footage compared to me - do you have links to video that show be to be wrong? if yes - please upload. I believe the style matchup against Golovkin would not be in Geale's favour, Sturm was a much better fit.
Apologies for my earlier rant towards you. This is a much better analysis. A rarity among GGG fans.

First of all, I agree Geales defense is not the best and is a bit above average, however like I said before it would be the best defense GGG has come up against providing they fight in 2013. The Sturm fight showed to me a decent improvement in his defense after watching his previous fight which I believe is on youtube if you wish to do a comparison. Sturm mainly landed jabs on Geale with the occasional hook which Geale avoided most of the time. There is no shame in being hit by Felix Sturms jabs as they are some of the best I have seen in the last ten years. They carry a beautiful combination of speed, power and accuracy. ODLH couldn't even avoid them. Furthermore, Geale's chin has been tested by the likes of Roman Karmazan who packed a pretty good punch.

The Ouma fight showed that GGG POSSIBLY has stamina issues as it was the furthest he has ever been in a professional fight not mention the most he has been pushed in regards to the pace of a fight. I disagree with you when you say Geale is not fast enough to employ the Ouma tactic. He can do everything that Ouma does and way better however I do agree that his power is questionable although his jab has improved over the last two years. However, do not dismiss it as we have not seen anyone land a powerful punch on GGG chin.

I never said GGG was hurt by Ouma, I said he looked like he was going to collapse. I meant from exhaustion. You only have to take one look at him following the fight. That fight exposed some serious flaws in Golovkins game plan. Another thing I have noticed about GGG is that he does not fight very well when on the back foot (see Ouma fight: early rounds). He is a power puncher first and foremost and likes to dominate his opponent by cutting of the ring with his superior footwork whilst waiting to land the perfect shot, and doesn't often resort to out boxing his opponent. This will not work against Geale who has superior speed and footwork. Geale is excellent when he forces a fighter on the back foot. (See Karmazan and Sturm fight) however this depends entirely on whether Geale can hurt GGG which is still a question mark for me.

I can assure you that after Geale whips Mundine and beats Sturm in the rematch (Soliman is going to get owned), the fight will happen in late 2013.

Incorrect.

Geale's workrate > Golovkin's workrate - that would be a true statement.

Golovkin's stamina issues are unfounded. Was in an airport for 3 days stranded before the Ouma fight and felt light shite. He said his balance was all over the place and that his arms and legs felt like a tonne weight. Google it! Golovkin's defense was awful that night but lets be honest when have you ever seen him get hit with so much ease ? He hasn't. To go on and do what he did to Ouma is amazing relly.

Yes, then by having GGG in his cross hairs by the 2nd half of this year.

HBO will be losing they're hype jobs and we'll have an Australian world champion cleaning out 160 if Martinez doesn't decide to duck.

Can some of the Aussie insiders help me out?

Most everyone is claiming that Geale will earn far more from his upcoming domestic defense rather than fighting Golovkin. Many say it will be like 5 million as opposed to 1 million.

Where is this big payday coming from? Is their PPV in Australia, Lord knows the gate will not cover this. Rather than continue with the minutia and speculation, I simply ask: How is Geale earning 5 million for this fight???
