I just can't think of any other reason as to why he would take on Sturm in Germany when he had the IBF mandatory position locked after all he has wanted has been a title shot at a recognised middleweight title.

If he beats Sturm, it would be a massive win given the risk he has taken.
What risk? Sams 39 and fading. He has no title. He's beaten sub-par fighters of late. He is blest that Ray wheatly is the head of the IBF . He needs this type of payday before the doors shut.

The risk of not getting his world title shot when he is the mandatory challenger should he lose to Sturm.

Wouldnt call that a risk. Geale wouldnt have offered him as much as sturm is offering because he isnt worth it. Mandatory yes, ticket seller no. Ugly fight at that.

Soliman wins comfortably over sturm, unlike the very questionable split decision Geale got!

I agree with the above, but my original post alluded to the financial reward of the Sturm fight being significant enough to forego a guaranteed opportunity of a world title fight, which is pretty much the same thing you've written.

In any case, for the boxing fan, I think this new arrangement of Soliman having to fight Sturm in order to fight for the IBF title pleases most.

Fail to understand why so called “Eliminator” when according to current IBF ratings Soliman is #1, #2 Not rated & Sturm is #3 ??
The whole thing is on the nose...not to mention Sturm is supposedly the promoter.

This fight is a good outcome for everyone it seems to me.

Good for Sam because he collects the best payday on offer.

Good for Sturm because he positions himself to lock in a rematch with Geale.

Good for Geale because once the Mundine fight is done (if he wins) a rematch with Sturm in Germany will be the best payday on offer for him.

Plus Geale is capable of winning over there again. If he does (that's another if) he can then take the best money fight on offer once again (either SS or GGG).

Good for the IBF because they get their defending champion to make a mandatory defence that is in the fighter's own best interests to take. Those are the kind of mandatories no-one has a problem with.

It's only going to be a bad outcome if Mundine & Soliman win. The Man v Sam IV? Get the **** outta here!

Great results! Geale mundine was pretty average but Soliman coming back after being dropped in rd2 to win unanimously was a great fight. Geale vs Soliman will be high pace with a hell of a lot of punches thrown

Good win by Sam, your confidence in Sam was spot on.
Hope you had a few dollars on him.
