Too bad this didn't happen when they were both in their primes. If this actually happens Collins probably loses due to inactivity/age. But RJJ literally has NO punch resistance, I could see Collins pulling an upset.

Steve Collins, 48, announces return to fight Roy Jones Jr

• Irishman last fought in 1997 and claims Jones avoided him
• 'He was afraid of me but now we're going to get it on'

The Republic of Ireland's former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight champion Steve Collins has announced plans to make a return to the ring at the age of 48.


Collins last fought in 1997 and includes Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank among the fighters he has beaten. He claims he will take on Roy Jones Jr, the American he was frustrated not to fight during his heyday.


Collins told TalkSport: "It's not a comeback as such, at my age I'm too old for that, but it will be the end of a 15-year grudge.


"It's a fight Roy Jones needs. He claims to be one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters around but he refused to fight me.


"I was very happy with my career but the one fight I wanted was Roy Jones and when that didn't happen I retired. To me he was afraid of me. I don't think he's a coward but at the time he was.


"But now it's happening. I spoke to Roy and we're going to get it on. He wants one more fight before he retires and this is the one he wants.
"If we get a good offer we'll split it down the middle and get it on."


Collins says he will fight only if doctors pass him fit to do so. "I'd love the fight to be in the UK but there is interest from Dubai, Russia, China. Dubai looks the favourite but we'll have to see where the offers come from," he said.

Its got to be the money imo, a Jones-Collins fight is the kind of farce that would make quite a bit of money for both of them, and Steve might be in some financial trouble. It could be for the love of the sport to, but if Steve had wanted to, and had been allowed return he would have returned years earlier than this. A joke of a fight and I really hope it doesn't go ahead. I dont want to see one of my favorite Irish fighters take a beating or get seriously injured.

I really liked the Celtic Warrior as a fighter, I'm still undecided if I was creating a perfect fighter at that weight would I want Steve Collins or Chris Eubanks chin?
