Who comes to mind? You know the type... maybe they used to be good, or maybe they looked good beating some bums but were far from top notch.
Remember- Brett Lally: He beat John Scully at MW W10 (who was 13-0) and went on to lose to Donald Curry LKOby2 and Terry Norris LKOy1. He did manage to decision Tyrone Trice before his KO losses to Vinny Paz, Otis Grant, Dana Rosenblatt, and Chad Dawson. Ricardo Mayorga: He stopped Andrew Lewis in 5 then Vernon Forrest in 3. He even decisioned Forrest (MD) in a rematch. He lost a close decision to Cory Spinks. He won decisions over Michele Piccirillo, and Fernando Vargas in between getting his ass handed to him by Trinidad LKOby8, DeLahoya LKOby6, Mosley LKOby12, and Cotto LKOby12. Bert Cooper: Smokin... once trained by Joe Fraizer and he even resembled him a little (and Tyson) but he was far from great. He had legit power but he got the crap beat out of him by Reggie Gross, The Truth, Nate Miller, Foreman, Bowe, Foreman, Moorer, Corrie Sanders, Larry Donald, and others. He did manage to beat Henry Tillman, Tyrone Booze, Willie de Wit, Orlin Norris, Joe Hipp, Cecil Coffee, Joe Savage, and Richie Mellito. He was exciting even in his losses. |

At 147 he was a legit top fighter with a string of good wins. Above 147 he's basically been just a tough journeyman - good enough to test top fighters but not good enough to actually beat them. |
