Default A classic question for classic people

This has been sparking my curiosity for a while now, so I'd like to hear what you have to say.

We've all heard of that boxing is a game of hitting and not getting hit. If I'm not mistaken, the great Walker Smith Jr. knew the saying very well.

Now my question is this, for a guy as great as Robinson, being the best boxer of all time on most people's list, he seems to have quite a number of great fights under his name. Of course being great fights means a lot of action and him getting hit as well. Why?

Was it because:

A) Quality of opposition
B) He doesn't mind taking it as he can dish it out, or...
C) For all his greatness, Ray isn't the most elusive guy anyway

Enlighten me.

a bit of all 3, plus a lot of the best film is from his comeback when his reflexes and feet had slowed so he was more hittable

Yes. I think A is the most important. You can be great at hitting without getting hit, but that doesn't mean you won't get hit by someone like La Motta.

It was mostly Robinson's style and mindset. With his speed, power and skills he went after people. When you do this, you are open to be hit more often than not. Chins are not a huge issue at welter or middle.

I'm hoping he means with Ray's chin, getting hit is not an issue.
