Styles make fights, and Cormier remains unproven in MMA.
You can't just rank them head to head 1-2-3-4. Maybe 1 beats 2 and 4, but 3 has his number. Maybe 2 beats 1 more times than he beats 4, but 1 annihilates 3 and 4. A bad style matchup is a bad style matchup, and we are dealing with two wrestling-based fighters and two striking-based fighters. ![]()

Just flip Cain and Cigano, and you'll correctly have it in reverse order.
Who the fuck has Overeem defeated to be at the top??? Who has Cormier beaten to be 2nd??? Exactly. This isn't a who you like better poll. This is who has done more. Overeem and/or Cormier may go on to rule the division like no other, but they have yet to do it. Step back, analyze their records, and then factor in how good you think they are. |

Cormier looked like a monster against Barnett and to a lesser extent against Bigfoot. But that's pretty much all he's done as of yet. ![]() Cain destroyed Bigfoot even more impressively than Cormier did, and his demolition of Junior is more impressive than Cormier's win over Barnett. Overeem as well, he has the pedigree and perhaps may even be the best of them, but he hasn't shown it yet. He struggled with Werdum, but Junior wiped Werdum out with no trouble. That's part of the reason why I reckon we can't rank them with any degree of certainty just yet. Because I would bet on any of those 4 to beat the Barnett that Cormier fought, and I'd bet on all 4 of them to beat Bigfoot as well. ![]()

Id still have JDS at number 1 all things considered(1st fight being more impressive stoppage/resume) as has been mentioned before the 3rd is a true 50/50. Not taking anything away from Cain, impressive performance.
Cain rightly should be considered the top guy now, to be the man and all that. Reem and Dan aint done nothing to be ranked at number 1 other than potential |

Head to head, Cormier is a much bigger factor than resume alone. |
