Mantequilla Napoles figures in the top 10 mix IMO. That one punch demolition job he did on Ernie Lopez in their rematch stands out for me. I personally think it's pretty close between Hearns and Cuevas...but Robinson could ever so casually put your lights out.

"Undoubtedly" is too strong a word.

Possibly the two biggest welterweight hitters met when Hearns destroyed Cuevas.

Give me the Hitman, by a whisker.

I may have to give Hearns the edge over Robinson with brutal knockouts of Cuevas and Duran....but Robinson has a beautiful knockout over Fullmer among others so it's close.

I agree. His KO of Turpin showed insane power considering it was late in the fight against a big strong middleweight who had all the confidence in the world.

Hearns IMO certainly had the most devastating righthand I saw live or on film. Robinson the best lefthook. Sugar Ray was the more complete puncher. He could hurt you with almost any punch he threw with either hand.

At 147 its tommy all the way with the right hand. Joe louis said after hearns beat cuevas that Hearns was the hardest hitting welter ever, ahead of Robinson. Now,of course in terms of the left hook, cuevas and, trinidad and robinson are better than the hearns left hook. But hearns' right tops all the punchers with its range, leverage and fizz. Hearns and robinson also carried their punches up to 160,but even at 160 i still see Hearns as having the hardest single shot, witness roldan, hagler, duran and schuler. At 147 the cuevas KO is just monstrous, the best single shot in 147 history against an iron chin.

Then factoring in his impossible physical attributes and dimensions, incredible jab and high level of boxing skill to go with that best ever power, you must rate Ray Leonard extremely high. Roberto Duran beats any welterweight in history H2H at their own zenith... He must've beaten someone unbelievably great.

Truth.

The Hearns and Hagler scalps convince me that, in Leonard, I witnessed one of history's greatest fighters.

So, yes, I rate Montreal extremely high in historical terms for Roberto Durán.

Simon Brown deserves a mention. He could be outboxed but his power was first rate. People seem to forget just how good he was.
