-Quincy K you can see here that Canelo was picked on and because of that he is hot tempered, so like is I said that bully thing is wrong... He was just defending himself, because of the hate he would get at a young age over his image. So it shaped his character obviously to be strong.

Antes de incursionar en el profesionalismo, Álvarez fue medallista de oro de las Olimpiadas Nacionales 2005 y 2006. Empezó en este deporte influido por su hermano mayor, Rigoberto “El Español” Álvarez, su único ejemplo.

El “Español” tiene planes para sí mismo, aunque confesó que su sueño es ver a su hermano menor como campeón del mundo.

“Es un muchacho carismático, con cualidades técnicas. Para mí va a ser campeón del mundo, lo que también es mi sueño”, indicó.

Su mánager, José Reynoso, atribuye el fenómeno mediático que se ha creado en torno de Saúl Álvarez a su calidad boxística, pero también a que es “muy especial y a su personalidad extraña. Lo ves una vez y su rostro no se te olvida, por sus pecas y pelo rojo”.

El “Chepo” Reynoso ve en el joven jalisciense “potencial para convertirse en ídolo, a pesar de ser todavía un niño” y sus palabras se están cumpliendo, el “Canelo” es ya un auténtico ídolo.

Didn't realise he had that much amateur experience. Be interesting to see how long his career goes on at the top level. Was always expecting him to have longevity at the top, but you can never be sure. Bouts, sparring and training all take their toll, so will be interesting to see if he's close to peaking now, or if he'll keep improving when pushing towards his 30's.

100 amateur fights?? I don't think that right. I remember him saying on ESPN Deportes that he didn't have many amateur fights. Not sure how many.

How many is always guess work so many conflicting reports, I've read 200-100 then no more then 20 but he won Olympics in Mexico twice so I'm sure there some truth to some of the numbers.

There is no way in hell he had that many. He's stated before he had less than 20.

If he had 100 or more amateur fights then he would have been thrown into the fire by now. He has 41 fights already. To have this many fights at this age is usually a sign of a limited amateur back ground. And if he had 100 amatur fights and another 41 professional fights then he should be farther along as a fighter then he has been.

Hoya by his 30th fight already fought Chavez, Whitaker, Camacho and Quartey.

by fernandos 21st fight he had already fought yory boy, marquez, ike, winky, thompson and tito.

my guess is that canleo wouldve been the underdog in each and every one of the fights.

and if you have any knowledeg about mexico and boxing, the majority of the professional boxers(if oyu can even call them that) are garbage as the average male wage here is $2.00/hour so getting paid $50.00 for a few rounds is good money especially when you have a family to feed. most of these guys dont train, live day-to-day and have no more fight experience than some guys here on the forum. i dont even want to talk about their physical condition as beer would be one of their daily staples.

just watch a tv azteca or telemundo boxing if youre here in mexico.
