Round 2
Conlan is reaching and missing, getting blasted with quick right hand counters. Selby is out-speeding, out-angling, and out-throwing Conlan. Very smooth and composed stuff by Selby, although he does linger to showboat for the crowd and allows Conlan to get in a touch with a lunging right. Selby counters with a straight combo and backs up. Selby skips quickly to his left to keep Conlan whirling. They trade jabs at mid-range. Conlan is committed to his predictable right hand lead, but is having a little success with it grazing the top of the head as Selby ducks in flight. 10-9 Selby 20-18 Selby |

Round 3
Conlan is pushing ahead, doubling a jab now to set the table for his right. Selby stays offline and beyond his reach, but has lessened his countering offense. Selby is squaring up and getting nicked with the tip end of some of Conlan's rights. Jabs traded from a couple of feet apart. Hooking combo by Selby backing up. Conlan drops the right to the body. Clubbing right to the backside by Conlan. Selby is circling out again and scoring with his left jab. Selby is able to keep Conlan off for the final half minute, boxing him. Wild hooks exchanged before the bell, misses both ways. 10-9 Selby but close. 30-27 Selby |

Round 4
Conlan is hurrying along, head down, into counters. Selby is snapping out his jab, once and twice at a go, all while jogging around to his left and rotating to avoid the ropes. Body shots by Conlan, leaning forward and down to spear them in. Selby trots out and jabs. Selby down, slip. Conlan keeps grinding in, not quite getting there. 10-9 Selby 40-36 Selby |

Round 5
Conlan is chasing after Selby diligently, throwing jabs straight to the sternum and then whipping the right around. Selby is turning and catching shots on his elbows and forearms, then slapping out counters. Conlan tries to dig the body. Selby lands a straight combination before stepping back and Conlan follows with a glancing lead right. Selby is circling in a backward jog, turned almost sideways to Conlan. Southpaw jabs from Selby while turning Conlan. 10-9 Selby 50-45 Selby |

There is such a thing as a close and competitive shutout, just to remind everyone.
Some people seem to think when the action isn't one-sided you should "throw one guy a bone" (the one coming up just short round after round) here and there by giving him a close one he maybe doesn't really deserve. That's nonsense. |
