McCoy stopped HWs too (and from what I've understood that supposed 158 lbs was stated, not official). You will notice that nobody was questioning Sharkey's durability or chin after McCoy dropped him. No suggestions of "Maybe that Sharkey wasn't as tough as we thought...after all, McCoy dropped him...". Very telling.

Keep in mind also that these knockdowns happened after 3 rounds of McCoy- a brutal and precise timing puncher in the Fitzsimmons mold- pounding him while Sharkey tried futilely to "box" with his more agile foe. Let McCoy pound on just about any HW of that era for 3 rounds without a return and there's a good chance they will go down too.

Mendoza's agenda is to build up Sharkey because he twice went the distance with his idol Jeffries.
Sharkey may have beaten Quarry, but don't look for a rational objective argument from Mendozy to convince you.

Watch Quarry vs Brassell. Brassel who has but 5 ko's in 25 fights, really had Quarry in trouble in round one. I do not think Shavers lasted long enough to land anything significant on Quarry, and IMO the stoppage could be viewed as pre-mature.

I never saw Quarry vs Mac Foster, so no comment there.

Quarry was dumb as nails. His self awareness in the ring cost him, and he " forgot " to pay his taxes " during his career. Quarry was game and stubborn, but hardly smart.

Sharkey wasn't a rocket scientist, but he was a better thinker in the ring. Read his auto bio and you'll see he wasn't a dunce.

How about the weights for Choynski 158lbs , McCormack 159lbs and Thorne 157.75lbs , are they all wrong too? I question Sharkey's durability after he was twice one punch stopped by a light heavyweight and dropped twice by a middleweight.

My point is Quarry could do what McCoy did, to suggest otherwise is farcical.
