And I'll take green and in athletic prime over a faded or shot incarnation in almost every instance. Nelson's a great fighter, he was great in the fight, Sanchez had the experience, and little clue who Azumah was coming in as a substitute. Could've very well been blindsided and overwhelmed, but overwhelmed wasn't in his vocabulary.

I'm certainly not saying that at all. Only rating those opponents compared to Olivares' best scalps. There's not much between them, Olivares just has more. More inconsistent patches and losses as well granted.

Got no problemos rating Chavez, Olivares and Saldivar above Sal... I'm just really touchy when it comes to him. The fact he can even stand in with these giants who had full length careers to demonstrate themselves is a massive credit to him. If he can cut top fives on an ATG Mexicano lists with regularity in the opinion of others, I'm really pleased with that. I ponder what he "Could've done" often, but I never base a rating off it considering it could've also went south real quick and is based on 100% assumption, which is kind of just flat out wrong.

Got something of a tribute thread to drop for him on the 26th... You're encouraged of course to leave comments though one mention of that dirty, glass jawed Pedroza's alledged superiority from you or Drew and I'll never talk to either of you again. Ooh, big deal right.

Yeah I'd gladly take Saldivar over Sal', they're both very close. I prefer Sal' a bit but Saldivar has the better wins and is probably the 'greater' champ'. Especially considering he got his chance at a rebirth and beat Legra and Fammo!

Saldivar's career was fuckin awesome. Ran the featherweight division, beat everyone who was playing hot potato with his title in his absence then came back and retook it! Ramos, Laguna, Winstone (x3), Legra, Famechon, Seki (x2) amongst others... With basically no prime defeats. Yeah, he's probably got a better record than a lot of fighters and it's surely not limited to just those from Mexico.

I can envision a timeline where Sanchez goes on to pick up a few losses and isn't as rated highly as he is today.

I've always maintained that we probably DID see the best Sanchez was going to offer. Boxing isn't about chronological age; it's the mileage you have on the chassis. He had the mileage of a much older man. So many don't see that.

I had thought Oliveras. But had a fresh look through Sanchez' record, and amongst other things he took the zeros of both Gomez and Nelson, as well as beating Laporte and Lopez. I'll stay with Oliveras - just.

Impressive, but you have to consider that Nelson was a baby whereas Gomez was up at 126lbs, not his best weight.

The Nelson of the Sanchez fight is an interesting fighter.He never really fought like that again.Never the same pace, unsettling momentum or manic intensity.

He was strong and as much of an offensive force as he ever was, though on the other hand was very open defensively, with almost none of the effective head or upperbody movement he would later employ.

How do you guys see that version doing against other elite feathers from past to present? He'd make for some great fights.
