I don't think Golovkin would need to get on his bike against Chavez at all to have a chance to win. He's skilled enough on the inside that it wouldn't matter if Chavez closed the distance. We saw that against Martinez; even when Chavez would get him against the ropes, Martinez would still frequently get the better of him. Golovkin, who's probably more comfortable at that range than Martinez, would likely have success in such close quarters against Chavez as well.

Chavez Jr is all wrong for him, and if the fight ever does happen I'm willing to have a 1 month ban bet with whoever thinks otherwise. GGG doesn't have the movement or defense to keep the larger, stronger and I suspect more durable Chavez off of him, and I certainly don't see him stopping Jr either, he walked through a hellacious beating from ***y Serg.

Jr is proven as a tough fighter. He ate ***y's best shots and he still came forward. Not to mention that he has a very good body attack and good power too.

Jr vs Golovkin and the winner takes a fight with Old-***y Sergio.

For those of you that don't remember....

I myself had thought Chavez Jr. had found his groove prior to the Martinez fight. But all that fight showed me, is he's the same lazy, one dimensional fighter, that got peppered in this bout.

Chavez has great potential, but he would have to show a level he hasn't demonstrated the ability to achieve, to beat GGG at this point. And Arum and company know it.

I'd go with Chavez Jr if he gets his shit together and based on strength chin and styles but it'd tell us a lot about GGG and probably re-enforce what we know about Chavez.

If Chavez eats punches from Golovkin like he did with Martinez he'll end up a vegetable.

Doug Fischer reported on how Golovkin ran Chavez out of the gym once already back before the Billy Lyell fight. Great fight, but Chavez is the one who is way to hittable and his power didn't stop Troy Rowland, John Duddy, Billy Lyell, Zbik, or Rubio. Only chance Chavez has is if Lawrence Cole is the ref.

Golovkin is the worst possible match up for Jr and I really hope the fight gets made.
It doesn't mean Jr. can't also give him problems. Jr. will eat shots, but he will also be imposing his size and dishing plenty out. Golovkin's true durability and mobility have yet to be tested against someone like that.

How impressive was Vera's stoppage of Lee? There's a reason Lee is not a top 10 middle, he can barely get separation from McEwen.
Jr. doesn't have to be less hittable, just more durable.

Lee has fought competition on par, if not better, than Golovkin.

GGG may have better punching form on the inside, but beating up Proksa and Rosado don't guarantee he'll cave in Chavez Jr., who took Martinez's best shots all night.

I don't think he was taking Sergio's best punches all night, Sergio wasn't committing as much.

Lee might have fought slightly better comp (questionable, no Ring top 10 opponent), but didn't fare too well did he? But like the poster before you noted, Chavez routinely goes the distance with fringe contenders or worse.

LOL Golovkin would punish Jr. 350 amateur fights is a lot of experience. Jr would be target practice for golovkins punches.
