Default The Fighter -- network premiere

Good film, historically inaccurate but good. They should make another film focusing on the Gatti fights.

GREAT film, imo.

The historical details are completely fudged, with some made up opponents and fights, and how Ward got the fight with Neary straight off the back of the win over Sanchez, didn't quite happen like that.
But the gist of it is probably true.

Bale deserved his academy award for this one.

They miss out alot of the fights between Sanchez and Neary, 2 of which he lost. Also they claim the WBU is a valid world title, insulting proper boxing fans really.

Top film though.

When I watched it the first time in the cinema I kept wrecking my girlfriends head by constantly stating that the fight against neary wasnt for a proper world title

True, and also Ward didn't get knocked down in the Neary fight like the movies showed.

That said it's a great movie.

And they are gonna make a sequel portraying the Gatti fights.

Didn't like the film....it wasn't helped by my utter contempt for that piece of human excrement, Wahlberg

I thought, other than Bale chewing the scenery, it had no story and was pretty dull.

Ward's story just isn't that interesting and Wahlberg plays him as if he's an earnest, slightly dull simpleton who can't take responsibility.

If it wasn't for Bale, it would be utterly turgid.

Mickey Ward was a bit of an odd choice, there are so many other boxers that have better story's and greater appeal.

Bale is brilliant in which ever role he plays, I struggle to think of a film I have seen of his in which he isn't, The Machinist is particularly good.
