Against Jones, Brook was facing a guy he couldn't put away, who was throwing lots of punches at him, and wasn't giving him the room he likes to operate in. A more fundamentally sound fighter, who can use different types of guard, would have brought his hands up and presented less of a target. Because Brook lacks that sort of schooling, he ended up getting hit too much when he got tired.

I use Floyd Mayweather Jr as an example a lot, because he s supremely adaptable. Look at the Judah fight:

He starts off struggling with Judah's speed and his hands are out of position to respond either defensively or offensively. Then look at how he comes out in the 10th round - he's got his hands up to do two things: encourage Judah to target the body, which lets Floyd land his straight right, and to reduce the risk from Judah zipping punches in from odd angles.

It's funny you mention the Judah fight with Mayweather, after I re-watched Judah-Mattysse last night I re-watched Judah-Mayweather, and Lennox Lewis and the HBO guys commentating explain the same thing you were earlier in this thread - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Re: Brook, I agree it was worrying once Brook did tire, and the athleticism he relies on to avoid shots disappeared, he was getting tagged way too much, to the extent he actually showed a sturdy beard to get through those last 5 rounds. I guess the Ingles could argue that now they've "fixed" Brook's stamina issues we won't see that kind of display again, which I hope so cos I really like Brook as a fighter, but it still sent alarm bells ringing.

He is going to make an immediate impact on Lee's conditioning going into future fights.
That is half the battle.
The other half of the battle is Lee's missing inside game and head movement.

I think he can help with the inside game and its too late to help to move with the head movement. However, giong back to the first point, conditioning, will substitute Lee's lack of head movement.

Reason for this substition:

Well look at Lee's last 2 fights against Vera and Chavez Junior.
In the entire Vera fight, Lee used his footwork to prevent relying on an inside game.
Vera tried to repeat what worked in their 1st encounter but this time Lee was wise.
And the difference when Lee had Vera on the canvass this time as oppossed to their 1st meeting was evident both in Lee's maturity and refusal to go in looking the kill.

In the Chavez fight, Lee did the same thing in the first 3 rounds and boxed beautifully.
However, this was a much smaller ring for one thing, so Lee's energy got wasted faster as a resul because there was less room for his footwork. and to Avoid Chavez, like he was with vera, he was having to waste much more energy. So eventually he had to get up close with Chavez and we saw the results.

Now with Booth placing most emphasis on conditioning and sports science which Steward for all his good qualities, was missing - we may see Lee able to keep up that footwork for longer.

And one final point, Lee is most dangerous when he throws 3 punch combos.
Anthony Fitzgerald is not going to test Lee and so we won't really know until his 2nd fith under Booth if the conditioning has kicked in. Unless of course Fitzgerald can put in the performance of his life. He is not the worst combeback opponent but probably on a par with Kerry Hope.

We will know more by the summer.

It'll be interesting to see how he does trying to improve a fighter that is already a seasoned pro. He has mentored Haye and Groves from the very start of their careers.

Not much. Would have said this regardless of last nights result. If Aydin bombs Soto out in a few rounds I still don't think Booth really adds to his game.

Lee and Aydin are two guys whos flaws are far too deeply ingrained. You're never gonna make Lee loose, fluid and able to deal well on the inside. You're never really gonna get Aydin punching in bunches, able to counter, the guy is a straight up brawler thats never really had correct technique.

The best you can do with these guys is try to improve them mentally, get them in the best shape possible, maybe small refinements to improve Aydin's punching form and poise. With Lee its about getting him to believe in himself, you're not going to see big change.

Put it this way you wouldn't get a footballer late 20's who has played in the Championship and think you're gonna turn him into a top Premiership player.

When people are saying Booth will improve Lee's conditioning are they talking about PED's.
