I make sure to go down slow and controlled, but I try to come up explosively. If it's a lot of weight, then you won't be coming up that quick anyways, but I try to do them with power.

throwing things is great for explosive power
check out a guy called mick coup who writes a lot on power development and he believes throwing heavy things explosively builds up punching power |
