Pirog offered Martinez 6 million to fight in russia. He was injured pripor to planned fight against GGG. He is a quality operator but just needs a break.
Wasn't as if HBO were rushing in to get him back on their network either.

Dont forget N'Dam ducking him which is what led to him getting stripped. Timeline for anyone intrested since most have no idea what happened.

1 - Ndam gets stripped of his WBA interim belt for a purse bid no show vs regular champ GGG in February.

2 - Ndam with 0 WBO sanctioned fights offers a fight to Pirog for April 6 in Equatorial Guinea. Now since he's never fought in a WBO sanctioned fight and orgs don't rate other ABC belt holders there's no way he should even be rated, forget about being the mandatory.

3 - They begin talks when Pirog gets a minor injury. Pirog wants the proposed date moved to May 1st three weeks later. Ndam says he can't wait 3 weeks because he has a date and venue set in Equatorial Guinea.

4 - 2 or 3 days later a fight between Ndam and Maksym Bursak a top rated WBO MW (#2 i think) is signed and the WBO announces that it will be for the WBO Interm belt which makes no sense because Ndam wasn't rated, Pirog didnt avoid his mandatory and Bursak could have signed to fight Pirog who was looking for an opponent but didnt. No one puts a fight together in 3 days so obviously this had already been worked out between Ndam, Bursak and the WBO.

5 - NDam fights Bursak May 4th in France, three days after Pirog fought Ndam's replacement Ishida on May 1st. Ndam's Equatorial Guinea excuse was bullshit. Pirog was looking for an opponent which should have been Bursak but they conspired against him

6 - Pirog tries to unify with Geale and WBO says they'll strip him if he does, Geale backs out.

7 - Pirog tries to unify with Golovkin and WBO threaten to strip him, he goes ahead anyway and gets injured with a ruptured vertebrae. Pirog gets stripped and Ndam becomes the WBO Champion without even having to fight for a vacant belt.

8 - WBO always planned for Jacobs to win that belt and had been trying to get it back for the entire 2 years Pirog had it.
