Szpilka is a LOT of fun in the ring, as is Mollo. He is also rather skilled. But let's be honest, he's heavyweight Willy Blain.
Um, with some power, obviously. |

I think Szpilka is a rhythm fighter and Mollo did a lot to take his timing away. Szpilka loves to bob and weave to avoid punches and set up his own, but with Mollo this important element was missing.
Szpilka still showed some good offensive skill. He's both fast and powerful, and can throw straight shots in bunches. I think he looked slick on the outside, both popping shots and avoiding shots as well, but allowed Mollo to come in far too many times, were he was exposed and caught on the inside. Something needs to be done when it comes to dealing with opponents on the inside and a plan B when his rhythm is being disrupted. While his chin may not be iron, he did show a lot of character and heart overcoming the second KD especially, which was a great hard hook by Mollo and Szpilka, while going down, was right back into the fight after. Szpilka said this was a humbling experience and is willing to do whatever it takes to learn and work and improve. |

Don't think the jaws are as equally bad. I mean, Wlad was going down after love taps and was typically hurt and barely able to continue. This is why he totally had to alter his style and not get hit nearly as much. I haven't seen that from Szpilka and I don't think there is a need for him to make such drastic changes to his style. I don't think he could either, because he doesn't have the reach nor the height for that. I don't understand why people can't accept a fighter going down after a solid punch without resorting to extreme and premature judgements regarding his chin. Szpilka probably took that punch as well as many other fighters would. We found out he doesn't have an iron chin, but does that automatically entail he has a glass one?

remember Lewis getting battered by Mercer, then coming back to get the decision?
Wlad KO'd by Purity? Golota getting his ass kicked by Samson Po'uha before coming back to KO him (before the Bowe fights)? every top HW of any era had at least one reality wake-up in his career, or is bound to get one eventually, Szpilka is no different |
