Duran was still fighting (and sometimes beating) modern fighters when he was almost 50 years old and 30lbs above his best weight.

ok ok put it this way

you take 2 kids of equal talent

you make one train like a fighter from says the 50's and the other train like the modern era

you give the guy from the 50's method 1950 style training and the same cotton mouthpiece gloves diet ect and the other trains the modern way with footage of the guy from the 50's to study, the diet, a fitness coach, the gym equipment ,the wraps, the mouthguard the gloves

i know who i would put my money on despite the equal talent before training

Mayweather beats Hearns. Sergio Martinez beats Hearns.

I am going out on a limb here and say that Paul Williams would have also beat Hearns.

Hearns is one of the worst possible matchups for Mayweather. How does Mayweather beat him?

I'd honestly wouldn't doubt Pacquiao AT ALL. Now, height could be somewhat of a factor and that would spark a whole new debate.

But yes, if you asked me who I'd pick, I'd take Pacquiao without a second thought. My money would be on Pacquiao.

Current Cotto is a product of all the wars he's been in. The Cotto we are watching now isn't the same Cotto that beat Mosley (who was on EPO for that fight).

I'll counter that with this:

How does Hearns break the Mayweather defense?

Hagler beat Hears and he didn't have half of the skillset Mayweather does.

Benitez would get Margaritod by Pacquiao.

Could not win 3 rounds against Abril and he would give hell to Duran

Some old greats does get exagerrated.
Great point. In my opinion, fighters today are more complex in terms of preparation. They go thru different stages (in the ring and outside of it - training and such) that fighters back then couldn't possibly go thru due to the limitations and less structured format that was present in the early beginnings of boxing.

Today's fighters also face other fighters who are on that level and get conditioned to a higher level of competition.

I do admit that there were some good fighters in the past but I do not believe they were as superior as some claim.

'Overrated' is the wrong term.

Sure, someone today has the benefits of knowledge that has evolved from generation to generations over virtually a century.

New timers also get the benefit of modern nutrition which plays a big deal, as well as modern training methods.

However, old timers didn't have that. Look at the likes of Bob Fitzsimmons...he's constantly fighting people bigger than him, much bigger than him and even knocking them out. In terms of greatness, he kicks ANY new timers ass.

Head to head, sure, I have new timers giving old timers problems - HOWEVER you also have to think of 'golden eras', as talent peaks there.
For example, in the 60's, the bantamweight era was at its greatest. Boxers from 90's and 00's and 10's will struggle in that era. It's far weaker now in terms of quality despite the continual evolution in boxing knowledge.

Present proof if you're going to make a statement. I've seen Duran knocked around by Pat Lawlor like a ragdoll. Brandon is a tough cookie. He takes the highly praised Duran to hell.

No. The new era is by far the worst. 2 older fighters that couldn't hack it at 140 lbs were able to move up and win titles as underdogs at welterweight

Arreola is so unlucky to be in Klitschkos era if he was in 60s or 70s he would be ATG heavyweight no doubt he would KO all the bums Ali, Foreman, Liston Frazier etc Arreola is unbeatable
