Default 1970's 'Best of the Rest' Heavyweight Tournament: Semi Finals

I have decided to do a 1970's Heavyweight tournament. I have included 32 of the better fighters who did not gain general recognition as Heavyweight Champion, so no Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Spinks and Holmes.

For the sake of not clogging up the board, and making it a bit faster, I will be using multiple fights in a thread, with multiple options for people to vote. I will not vote, other than to break a tie. The draw was done at random, and with no one seeded.

All matches are to be judged over 15 rounds and finally as it is a 70's tournament, try and analyse the fighters at their 70s peak, even if they peaked in their career before or after the decade.

We already saw Quarry-Lyle.

Young-Bonavena is interesting, but I think that Jimmy Ellis proved that a canny small boxer type could really do a number on Bonavena, and while I don't think Young would be THAT dominant, he would still win.

It's looking pretty unanimous so far. Nearly as unanimous as my poll about taking it up the shitter from Bruce Lee

It amounts to Quarry-Young. Jerry would always be able to handle Lyle and Young would completely befuddle Oscar...do everything but deck Oscar.
So, to cut to the chase...oh, I'll wait.

LOL, I will, but I do not think it is really going to matter!

This was always going to be a 50/50 one. Lyle had the edge on power, while Norton was the better boxer overall.

True, but Lyle's power would be the great equalizer.

I love ya red but I just don't see it. I've always been more impressed with lyles boxing than his power and even that wasn't enough to get him to the very top at the elite level

You make a good point Jorodz..I'm not completely sold on just anyone cracking Norton's chin..if Kenny could have made it a contest of skills then...........
