Roy had a style of his own just like Naz and Donaire. They have the natural talent to throw out the logic that applies to most boxers and still dominate with amazing reflexes, speed and power.

There a reason that everyone(besides Donaire) that tries to fight like Roy fails.

If anyone thinks Roy has some amazing technical skills dksab.
I disagree, Roy's ring generalship was one of the best in the sport for years, and a lot of his combination punching was technically perfect. No, not all of Roy Jones was textbook, but he did have technical skills.

Watch some of his prime fights when he would go to the ropes and cover up, he would catch and roll with punches and counter beautifully. His use of the ropes were amazing as well.. Those were technical skills IMO.

Most physically talented boxer probably ever. His style was based off of it, which is why the moment he lost those reflexes, he couldn't produce at the highest level.

Doesn't work against what he did though. Tough to pick any LHW over him, prime for prime.

What about taking a beating from Tarver in the first fight? and losing most of the early rounds but ad******g? That's not fighting through adversity and taking a decent punch?

All of Roy's punches were compact and textbook. He had tremendous footwork and had the best feints of anyone. he was extraordinarily skilled. You can't just be a good athlete and make it in boxing.

Roy has achieved more lol. Started at 154 and won HW strap. Beat the great contemporaries of his era(TOney/Hopkins), both guys prime. Those 2 wins>>>any Floyd win. Hell, his wins over Hill, Tarver, Ruiz are on par and/or better than any Floyd win.

It's an A+ fighter against an A level one. CLose, but really not that close.

Hops has been able to maintain his reflex's and much of the speed he's relied on through his career. Roy didn't just lose a step, he lost a whole flight of stairs when he came back down to lightheavy and tarver broke his chin. A boxers reflex's and speed is two major tools in their toolbox of skills. You toss those 2 out and any great boxer becomes mortal. hops is slower than even a shot roy, but hops knew how to utilize the speed he's been given. You take even that slower speed away from him, and he's a dead man too.

I hate reading retarded ass statements that say Roy had no fundamentals ,you don't get robbed of a gold medal and win multiple championships with out the basics first. The difference is he was just more athletic than his peers and relied on them more .

Athletically gifted yes, maybe the most gifted in that department ever to lace them up. Most skilled definately not, he lost a fraction of his speed and that aura of invincibility quickly followed with it. He had a pre warning in the first Tarver fight and didnt have enough in his locker to adjust for the second fight. His skillset is average but he was amazing in his prime and a joy to watch.

His skillset was most definitely not average.

A one-fight warning isn't enough. Take any fighter's athletic attributes and dramatically reduce them over the course of two fights, they're not going to have time to adjust from how they've fought their whole career.
