Floyd signed the deal with Showtime/CBS because he can continue to fight whoever he wants and bank $50M each time. Simple math shows that between now and the end of 2015 he's gonna bring in over $300M. That's his "gain" to carry on.

I think you hit the main two reasons squarely: his spending habits and his ego.
