Default Why aren't fighters as respectful as these two any more?

No B.S, no bravado, no bad mouthing, just respect.

Great Interview. Hagler is a class act!

So true. Boxers are worried more about money and padding their record rather than reviving the sport or legacy.

Patterson-Johansson immediately springs to mind. Good friends outside the ring but brutal towards one another inside the ring.

They were good mates.

Showmanship often trumps substance. Not just in boxing, in all of entertainment, even politics.

That said, many fighters go about the fights with class. Cotto typically has, even his buildup with Mayweather was respectful.

Gatti vs. Ward, to me, is the best recent example of bitter rivals in the ring who carried a ton of respect for each other.

It's good to have good manners, but it's not good to show too much respect to your opponent because it will soften you up in the fight and will soften up your opponent's perception of you and build his confidence. Marvin Hagler says he never shakes his opponent's hands or touch their gloves because of this (not exactly what I said but similar).
