Man, this thread seperates the real from the fake.
Every mother fuckin boxer I ever seen in my life uses weights at some point for shadowboxing. It works. I don't give a fuck what the science behind it is, but if you're not doing it, do it. And experiment with differents amounts of weight. Do it before you put on the gloves. |

I used to shadowbox with dumbbells and I can safely say it increases everything. Once your speed increases with dumbbells imagine how fast you are when you lose them. Great thread and advice as always from Team Elite. |

I find it helps with the endurance of my shoulder. High volume punching could probably erode your form as you tire as easily as high weight gloves or dumbells? As for power and speed - nyeh, I can't really see that, for the same reasons as virus and dealt_with stated.

If you throw arm punches they may help with your speed but for anybody who can actually punch and snap their punches it's obvious they're not going to do anything apart from mess up the last link of the kinetic chain.

Of course shadowboxing with dumb bells will increase speed and power. But is it a safe and efficient method?
When the weights are too heavy, it becomes injurious. If you can't keep increasing the weights, then you can only increase speed and power up to a limit. There are tons of other stuff you can do that are far far better than shadowboxing with dumbbells. Put it this way. Shadowboxing with dumb bells might be good for beginners. |
