Forget gaining weight to start with. Focus on learning the basics at the local gym. Then focus on becoming as fit as you possibly can, running, cardio etc.

You'll find your natural fighting weight and then its up to you and your coach as to whether you should gain or lose weight. I'd say if you are that tall and rangy at 10 stone, stay around your current weight and incorporate your physical advantages into your style.

Good luck!

Muscle = Power.

That's a myth. Tall lanky fighters not only have a great reach advantage but they also often get more leverage with punches than shorter guys. Height can be a gift.
Putting on weight will mean you're going to fight bigger guys where your height advantage will be reduced.

I'm not suggesting it's as simple as height = good, muscle = bad. But height is usually advantageous in lower weight classes.

I agree with Bazza, learn the basics, work on cardio, figure out your style and then decide what weight is the best. I promise you your outlook will change in a few months.

BTW - the hardest punch I ever took was from a 139 lb 6 foot 5 beanpole.

lol...and I'll bet you some of the most respected posters here will get laughed at too if they were to post videos of themselves. It's the internet.....people are gods until they expose how lousy they really are.

Though they are less likely to get laughed at if they genuinely come across as wanting advice, rather than "hey look at me i'm awesome" meanwhile clearly they suck.

Disregard that, you're certainly a lock for being a top 3 poster on this forum.
