To the haters Anthony Mundine that y'all must of forgot

^ this is definitely the hot debate among fans.

Potential v achievements.

Mundine quite possibly filled his potential given his late start to pro ranks. If he had another 10 fights (before his debut) his achievements could've been greater. Perhaps beat Kessler and upwards from there.

It's only because he told us of his greatness in advance that we take him on his word and judge him accordingly.
Very accomplished sportsman no question, his legacy would be greatest if he retired right now.

I don't think that Mundine could ever have beaten Kessler. In fact, I'll dare say that from his 10th pro fight onwards, Kessler would have beaten any version of Mundine that we've seen.

Unfortunately after starting out fighting a very high level of competition like Ottke and Kessler which even though he came up a little short in those fights he was very competitive with not a whole lot of experience.

Rather that continue to face guy's in the top tier and improve as a boxer he basically spent the next decade telling us who he could beat rather than actually fight the top guys.


Sure he won a few titles but as I recall all but one of those there was a super champ at the time. Like when Mundine won his first so called world title it was for the vacant WBA SMW title against Sam Soliman while undefeated Calzaghe was WBA SMW "Super Champion" after beating Kessler at the same time.


Mundine has always talked about fighting the best but it has never happened. Over the years how many times have we heard him speak about fighting Mayweather, Cotto, Sergio Martinez none of which has happened he even knocked back an opportunity to fight Trout recently for the WBA JMW title saying Trout had not fought anybody. Trout in his last outing beat Cotto and is fighting Alvarez next with both the WBC and WBA JMW belts on the line. This could have been Mundine in this fight but he chose once again not to step up when he had the opportunity.


The bottom line is that Mundine had the potential to be great but chose not to fight the best so it never happened. If what he wanted to do in his career was make a lot of money then he has passed with flying colours. If he wanted to be a known as a great boxer who fought the best than he has failed miserably.

He probably could have got 10-15% better had he started and committed to boxing a lot earlier.

starting his career earlier still would not have put a heart in him,he may have looked the goods against the average fighter but he showed a lack of ticker when he fought in the top 10, ability will get u so far,but takes more than that to win a fairdinkum world title

I don't think it was he ducked anyone,I think it was more,making easy money for him,whether he fought a bum or a great,people are going to tune in to watch him (love or hate him) and he knows that,so he(or Nasser) prob thought who cares who im fighting,im going to generate cash regardless...does leave a lot of questionable fight choices no doubt,but I do think he did very well for a league player turned boxer so late
