Default Is Rios Still a Bigger Star than Alvarado?

Although Rios lost legitimately, is he still a bigger star than Alvarado, and therefore will get the big money fights against Pacquaio and JMM?

Yes.

Rios has a more consistently entertaining style, has a more distinctive appearance than Alvarado (who kind of looks vanilla), and most importantly of all, he's younger and has a shorter, more concise name.

All of these factors mean Rios was, still is, and likely will continue to be a bigger star than Alvarado.

his style will get him big fights for a few fights, yet if he starts to lose then he will not be that popular anymore. The Abril and now the Alvarado fight is the blueprint to beat Rios and many top guys can use that style and can land on him cleaner than Alvarado did.

Of course he is. Alvarado is one of those nice stories who will have 15 minutes of fame and then live the rest of his life talking about them on ESPN Classics.

First of all Abril lost to Rios and secondly the Rios/Alvarado bout was a very close fight. With Rios winning the battle but losing the war on the judge's cards. Rios is the bigger star because he makes the fights exciting.

Yes...still a bigger draw but may not be the better boxer/fighter. We'll see if Brandon can make some adjustments to overcome the boxing ability from Alvarado and then maybe Rios can get back to being mentioned with the bigger names of the division...or...Alvarado may be the new name at 140 that places him in the mix with the top 147 pounders. Either way boxing wins with either of these guys being mentioned in some bigger fights.

The Abril fight is a blueprint on how to neutralize Rios. If a guy can add more punching into it then he beats Rios rather easily. I love Brandon's heart, but last night showed that Broner would beat him easily, and Garcia's left hook would probably stop him.

I think Gam is too small for Rios....But even though Gam is more polished, faster and more explosive...I don't think Gam would have the same grit and determination that Rios has always shown...so no one knows how Gamboa would cope with a dog fight.

How the hell is Rios a "star"???

He's gaining in popularity for sure, but he has not headlined any major PPV's or sold out any arenas as of yet.

Plus now we all know he is limited, so there is a ceiling for how far he can go.

Yeah Rios is still a bigger star than Alvarado, in large part because of his style of fighting, but also cuz his promoters have invested more in Rios than Alvarado. The blueprint to defeat Rios is now out, I think it was before with that gift decision against what's his name and I think Arum will match him up next with somebody Brandon can easily ko, make the big money fight with Canelo or whoever and then that's it for Rios. He made no adjustments against Alvarado, showed no extra gear so to speak and will be easily handled by any top tier fighter at or near his weight.
